In this episode of Hello Mentor, we feature Datin Dian Lee, a trailblazer in Malaysia’s property development industry who, at just 22 years old, co-founded The Clearwater Group. Hosted by Derek Toh, Founder and CEO of Hiredly, the podcast takes a deep dive into Dian's inspiring journey—from her rebellious teenage years to becoming an award-winning entrepreneur, juggling multiple ventures, and finding balance in life through conscious living.
At the young age of 22, Datin Dian Lee (@dianwithlove on Instagram) pursued her dream of becoming one of the youngest property developers in Malaysia. While others her age were still discovering themselves, Dian was determined to make her mark in the property development industry. With a team of like-minded investors, she founded The Clearwater Group, which specializes in boutique homes that seamlessly blend traditional property development with the evolving needs of urban living.
Beyond property, The Clearwater Group expands into lifestyle offerings, including F&B and wellness brands, carving out a unique niche in Malaysia’s competitive market. Starting a business at such a young age wasn’t without its challenges. Dian candidly shares how she often faced skepticism, with many attributing her success to her family background rather than her own hard work and vision. However, her determination to prove her individuality and value kept her focused. She recalls how her 20s were about proving she could succeed independently, while her 30s became a time of self-assurance and inner peace.
Amid the hustle and bustle of her career, Dian sought deeper meaning and personal growth. In 2016, she took a transformative step by completing a yoga teacher training course in Bali. This experience not only reignited her zest for life but also introduced her to what she calls a “conscious evolution,” where she embraced mindfulness, authenticity, and courage.
Her journey into yoga and meditation highlighted the importance of unlearning societal expectations and reconnecting with her true self. These practices became tools to help her manage the complexities of business, motherhood, and personal growth.
For young entrepreneurs, Dian’s story is a lesson in resilience, vision, and authenticity. She emphasizes the importance of believing in what you do, staying curious, and being willing to take calculated risks. Whether it’s property development, F&B ventures, or filmmaking, Dian follows her passions wholeheartedly—building things she loves and staying true to her values.
