Hiredly Launches 2025 Work Culture Report That Will Change the Way You See the 3 Generations at WorkKUALA LUMPUR, 15 May 2025 — Hiredly, a leading recruitment platform for professional and executive talent in Malaysia, officially launches its highly anticipated 2025 Work Culture Report: a comprehensive look into what Malaysians truly want (and won’t tolerate) at work.Based on over 1,200 survey responses from Malaysian professionals across Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X, the report reveals eye-opening insights into what defines the modern workforce and what employers need to adapt in order to stay competitive.Preview of Key InsightsGen Z doesn’t see flexible culture as a top priority, but it’s Gen X’s number one.72% of Malaysian workers prefer a positive work culture over a high salary.Only 15% of Millennials and Gen Z are willing to work long hours for quick career growth, showing that hustle culture is fading.Gen X values entrepreneurial environments the most (7.55%), while Gen Z values them the least (3.89%).60% of Millennials have quit a job without another lined up; only 44% of Gen Z have done the same.91% of jobseekers care about a company’s online presence, and 38% wouldn’t apply if it doesn’t have one. Challenging Generational Stereotypes with Fresh DataThe report makes a strong, encouraging point: flexible working isn’t just important to Gen Z. While Gen Z might be the most vocal about it, Millennials and Gen X professionals value flexibility too, they’re just a bit quieter about it“Gen Z are the loudest about flexibility, but actually, both Gen X and Millennials appreciate it too. In fact, Gen X value it the most, placing flexibility as their top priority, even more than younger generations.” says Derek Toh, Founder & CEO of Hiredly. Salary Matters, But Culture WinsWhen asked to choose between a high salary and a positive work culture, more than 72% of respondents chose culture. This reinforces that while pay still matters, most people agree: a high salary isn’t worth it if the culture is a poor fit.“In broader questions with many priorities, a high salary often came out on top across 3 generations,” explains Toh. “But when we asked people to choose between just two - pay or culture - most chose culture. This tells us that while salary is important, people know it’s not sustainable to stay in a workplace that doesn’t feel right.” Employers Need to Compete Harder for Talent Who Are Willing to Go the Extra Mile Only 15% of Millennials and Gen Z are willing to work long hours for fast career growth, a clear sign that hustle culture is losing its appeal. And when it comes to entrepreneurial environments where roles are broad and job scopes aren’t clearly defined, Gen X shows the most interest (7.55%), while Gen Z is the least drawn to it (3.89%).This shift shows that fewer people, especially the younger generations, are willing to thrive in demanding work cultures. For employers who need this kind of talent, the competition is tougher.According to Hiredly’s Chief Operations Officer, Joann Teoh, companies must now focus on strengthening their employer brand and modernising hiring practices to win over top-tier talent.“There are still people willing to take on roles that are demanding on time and scope,” says Teoh. “But employers need to present those responsibilities as opportunities for growth, and support that with strong employer branding to attract the right talent.” Download the Full Report for More Surprising InsightsThe full 50-page report is packed with more surprising insights and is available to download for free starting today.
