Job interviews aren’t just about answering questions—they’re also your chance to build a genuine connection with your potential employer.

In her appearance on Eight FM, Hiredly’s VP of People & Culture Joselyn shared three thoughtful questions candidates should ask during interviews to stand out and build trust.

Here’s how to end your next interview on a high note 👇

1. “What are your expectations of me beyond the job description?”

It’s easy to focus only on what’s written in the job description (JD), but every role comes with unwritten expectations—especially around attitude, team collaboration, and work style.

Joselyn recommends asking this at the end of your interview:

“Besides what’s listed in the JD, what are your expectations of me if I join the team?”

Why it works: It shows initiative and maturity, and lets the interviewer know you’re committed to aligning with their goals from day one.

2. “How do you think I performed in this interview?”

This might sound bold—but it’s actually a sign of self-awareness and a growth mindset.

“I think it’s fine to ask this,” Joselyn says. “It shows you’re humble and open to feedback.”

Even if the feedback isn’t perfect, it gives you valuable insight to improve next time. And if you handled the interview well, it gives the interviewer a chance to reinforce your strengths.

3. “What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned working here?”

This question isn’t just smart—it’s personal.

“Everyone likes to talk about their own journey,” Joselyn says. “When you ask this, you create a deeper connection with the interviewer.”

Why it works: You’ll gain insight into the company’s culture, learning opportunities, and what people value most about the workplace. Plus, it shows you’re thinking long-term.
