1602 Craft Beer is a pioneering brewery based in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, dedicated to producing high-quality, locally crafted beers that celebrate the rich heritage of Borneo. The name "1602" is deeply symbolic, representing a pivotal year in history. It marks the first publication of a map of Borneo, bringing the island into global awareness. This historical event, coupled with the birth of modern lager yeast in the same year, inspired the founders to establish a brewery that honors tradition while embracing innovation.

The journey of 1602 Craft Beer began with Global Sales & Marketing Sdn Bhd, led by a visionary entrepreneur with a passion for innovation and local craftsmanship. Motivated by a desire to produce authentic, high-quality beer in his hometown of Sarawak, the founder transitioned from industrial brewing to craft brewing. He envisioned a beer that would not only satisfy local palates but also place Sarawak on the global craft beer map.

To bring this vision to life, the founder collaborated with experienced brewers Randy Liew and Hans Gerner. Liew, a Malaysian-born brewmaster with over 15 years of experience, and Gerner, a German brewer from a family with a brewing legacy dating back to 1308, combined their expertise to create a range of beers that reflect both local and international brewing traditions.
