Banglo 289-Preserving Malaysian Heritage through Authentic Kampung Flavors.

Our Origin Story

We officially opened our doors in September 2022. It wasn't a grand, corporate launch; it was a passion project among friends. The whole idea was born out of the pandemic, realizing how much the simple, authentic flavors meant to us. When we found a beautiful, old bungalow in the heart of the city, we knew it was the perfect spot. We wanted people to feel like they were coming home, escaping the city hustle for a genuine taste of tradition.

 

What We Do Here

Our mission at our restaurant is simple: keep the heritage alive through food.

  • Authenticity First: We don't take shortcuts. We source all our ingredients fresh from the market every morning. We make sure we use real "cili hidup" (fresh chilies) and hand-peel every bit of "kunyit" (turmeric) ourselves. You won't find any pre-packaged coconut milk here; only the real deal.
  • The Experience: We offer a laid-back, self-service lunch experience (like a school canteen!) where you can pick from over 30 different dishes we’ve cooked that morning.
  • Our Pride and Joy: People really love our signatures, like the tender Daging Salai Masak Lemak Cili Api (smoked beef in spicy coconut gravy) and our amazing Lamb Shank Masak Lemak.
  • The Vibe: We designed the place to feel welcoming—a mix of classic charm and modern comfort. We hope that when you dine with us, you feel that warm, nostalgic "balik kampung" (going home) feeling, right here in the middle of the city.
