Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Hulu Langat

Our Story

About Us

The Centre was the brainchild of Mrs. Aimee Chan, who became the Society’s first president. The pioneering group was parents of children with multiple disabilities residing mostly in the Hulu Langat District. Unable to obtain admission for their children in government schools or institutions due to various reasons including severity of their conditions, long waiting lists for admission and distance from their homes to special schools, they were forced to set up their own training centre for the sake of their children.

Registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS), operations first started in September 1995 with one paid staff, one volunteer worker and ten children.

Our Aim

  1. To provide therapy, training and self-help skills to disabled children in order to help them:
  • be as independent as possible within their abilities.
  • develop their abilities to their fullest potential.
  • continue maintenance of their abilities and to prevent deterioration of their conditions.

2. To expose the children to normal community and social experiences.

3. To impart information, skills and resource facilities to parents for more effective parenting of children with special needs.

4. To bring about a greater awareness of the needs of the disabled.

5. To bring about greater acceptance of the disabled by the public.

6. To bring about better integration of the disabled into the community.
