BLU341 is a startup ecommerce brand creating premium luggage protection products for RIMOWA owners worldwide.

Our products help customers protect, personalise, and travel confidently with their luggage. Originally started in Melbourne, Australia, BLU341 is now building a modern global travel brand from Kuala Lumpur, with customers across the USA, UK, Australia, Europe, Singapore, UAE, and other international markets.

We are currently looking for a project-based Product Designer to help us develop and create our nylon luggage cover range.

 

About the Project

We are developing a fitted nylon luggage cover designed specifically for RIMOWA luggage models.

The goal is to create a product that is:

• Lightweight
• Practical
• Premium-looking
• Easy to use at the airport
• Protective during travel
• Foldable / packable
• Durable enough for regular use
• Designed with good fit, function, and finishing

This project is ideal for someone with experience in bags, soft goods, fashion accessories, travel accessories, luggage products, sewing patterns, textile products, or functional product design.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Help design and improve nylon luggage cover concepts
• Develop product ideas based on function, fit, usability, and customer needs
• Create sketches, technical drawings, or product design references
• Assist with pattern direction and construction details
• Recommend suitable materials, trims, closures, stitching, and finishing
• Help improve how the cover fits around luggage handles, wheels, corners, zippers, and telescopic handles
• Review samples and provide clear feedback for improvement
• Work with the founder and supplier/factory to refine the product
• Help prepare basic product specifications or tech pack notes
• Suggest improvements for usability, durability, appearance, and production feasibility

What We’re Looking For

• Experience in product design, bag design, accessory design, fashion design, textile design, or soft goods design
• Strong understanding of fabric, nylon, stitching, trims, and product construction
• Good eye for practical design and premium finishing
• Able to think about both aesthetics and function
• Comfortable reviewing samples and giving detailed improvement notes
• Able to create sketches, technical drawings, references, or simple tech pack documents
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to work independently on a project basis
• Comfortable working with a startup where the product may evolve through testing and sampling

Nice to Have

• Experience designing bags, pouches, luggage accessories, covers, outdoor gear, travel accessories, or fashion accessories
• Experience with nylon, polyester, mesh, elastic, zippers, buckles, straps, trims, or binding
• Experience creating tech packs or working with factories
• Understanding of pattern-making or garment/product construction
• Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CLO3D, CAD, or similar tools
• Knowledge of manufacturing limitations and sample development process

Project Scope

This is a project-based role.

The initial project may include:

• Reviewing current nylon cover ideas or samples
• Suggesting design and construction improvements
• Creating design references, sketches, or technical notes
• Helping prepare feedback for the supplier/factory
• Supporting 2–3+ rounds of sample review and refinement

Further work may be available depending on project fit and product development needs.
