Job Description

Hands-on Python Backend Developer to build the first version of a multi-tenant SaaS platform for IT operations service providers and their customers. You will own backend implementation, database design, APIs, testing, and deployment, working directly with the product owner; frontend implementation and UI are out of scope.

Responsibilities

Core backend development

• Build maintainable backend services and REST APIs using Python, Django and Django REST Framework, with clear versioning and API contracts.
• Design PostgreSQL schemas, constraints, indexes and manage versioned migrations to support scalable, tenant-aware data models.
• Own authentication, permission models and organisation-level access controls so customer data stays properly isolated.
• Implement approval workflows and traceable audit records to keep actions verifiable and compliant.

Reliability, data integrity and background processing

• Handle concurrency, idempotency and duplicate requests to keep business records consistent under load.
• Design reliable background jobs with retries and monitoring, using Celery or comparable systems where appropriate.
• Write automated tests covering permissions, workflow transitions and data integrity to prevent regressions.
• Define validation and error handling so integrations and consumers get predictable responses.

Deployment, observability and collaboration

• Set up Docker-based deployment, document configuration and maintain backup and recovery procedures for production systems.
• Instrument monitoring and logging, run recovery tests and participate in on-call troubleshooting when needed.
• Work directly with the product owner to clarify requirements, explain trade-offs and deliver incremental progress.
• Document APIs, operational runbooks and integration details for other teams and future handovers.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience, including production backend applications.
• Proven experience owning backend features from design through deployment and live support.
• Comfort working independently with a product owner and explaining technical choices in clear English to non-technical stakeholders.
• Track record of clarifying requirements, demonstrating progress and raising risks early in the project lifecycle.

Hard Skills & Knowledge

• Strong Python and Django skills with practical experience building REST APIs; Django REST Framework is preferred.
• Solid PostgreSQL and relational database design experience, including SQL, transactions and query optimisation.
• Experience implementing authentication, permissions and organisation- or customer-level access restrictions, plus understanding of concurrency control and idempotency patterns.
• Practical experience with automated testing, Git, Docker, Linux and production troubleshooting. Familiarity with Celery, Redis, scheduled tasks, AWS, private object storage, CI/CD, monitoring, row-level security, audit logging and OpenAPI is a plus.
