Job Description

Let's skip the part where we pretend this is a normal internship.

You know those backend intern programs where you spend 3 weeks setting up your dev environment, get assigned to "fix typos in the README," and your biggest contribution is a Jira ticket nobody reads? Yeah, this isn't that.

Awesomeree AI is Malaysia's leading AI startup and e-commerce powerhouse. Our backend runs operations at a speed that makes other companies' engineering teams ask "wait, how?" — and the honest answer is we use AI tools most CTOs won't touch for another 3-5 years. We're not exaggerating. Our interns pushed code to production in their first week and then had to sit down because the dopamine was too much.

We're hiring Backend Developer Interns who want to ship real code from Day 1 — not watch someone else's PR review for six months while "absorbing the codebase."

And unlike traditional internships where you rotate between "shadow the DevOps guy" and "help with documentation" until everyone forgets your name — you'll own real services and go deep. No babysitting tasks. No fake projects. Real endpoints, real users, real consequences when you break prod (and you will, briefly, and we'll laugh about it).

Remember Tony Stark in the cave? He built the Mark I with scrap metal and a car battery. We're not handing you scrap metal — we're handing you the whole workshop. Use it.

"But I'm not the best coder in my class."

We literally do not care if your GitHub has three repos and one of them is just a fork.

You don't need to be a competitive programmer. You don't need a CS degree. You don't need to have memorised LeetCode or pretend you've read "Designing Data-Intensive Applications" cover-to-cover.

If you can write a function, read a stack trace without crying, and Google your way out of a problem — you can do this. We will teach you the rest.

Self-taught devs, bootcamp grads, CS students, the IT student who built a Discord bot that accidentally got 800 users, the diploma kid who reverse-engineered their school's timetable system — all welcome.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Work directly with the founder and engineering lead on real product — not a side-project sandbox built to keep interns busy
  • Ship features into production that real shops, real customers, and real money flow through
  • Use the world's best AI coding tools (Codex and Claude) to move 5–10× faster than dev interns at any other company — this is not optional, this is the workflow
  • Build APIs, write database queries that don't fall over at scale, debug things at 2am that broke at 1:55am (kidding… mostly)
  • Own a service end-to-end — design it, build it, deploy it, monitor it, fix it. The whole loop
  • Grow into a role where "intern" stops being an accurate description by month 3

You're Probably Right For This If:

  • (REALLY IMPORTANT) You have a track record of building things nobody asked you to build — a script that automates your homework, a bot that scrapes anime release dates, a side project with a domain name you actually paid for. We're pattern-matching for the "can't help but build stuff" type
  • You're the friend who fixed everyone's Wi-Fi at the mamak — not the one who said "have you tried turning it off and on again"
  • You have an allergic reaction to "it works on my machine" — you test, deploy, monitor
  • You've been told your code is "too clean for a student" by lecturers whose biggest project was a 200-line PHP script in 2014. You took it as a compliment
  • You get uncomfortable when CI is green and there's nothing to fix — a slow Tuesday makes you open the codebase looking for trouble
  • You pick up new frameworks, languages, and tools like they're Pokémon
  • You'd rather ship an ugly v1 today than argue about architecture for two weeks

Any degree, any background, any year of study. We care about how fast you learn and how much you ship, not your CGPA.

We don't hire interns who "want exposure." We hire interns whose hobby project is more complex than most people's final-year project.

This Role Is NOT For You If:

  • You want a structured 6-month rotation through "frontend, backend, QA, DevOps"
  • You think internships should be 70% learning and 30% doing
  • The phrase "push to main on a Friday" makes you faint instead of grin
  • You need a Jira ticket with acceptance criteria spelled out in 14 bullet points before you'll start
  • You think AI coding tools are "cheating"

What You Get (Besides Bragging Rights)

  • Hands-on training on AI coding tools that cost more per month than most interns' allowances — free, and the workflow is yours for life
  • A backend skill set that puts you 2–3 years ahead of fresh grads with the same degree
  • Direct mentorship from people who actually ship — not a senior who only reviews PRs and books meetings
  • Real production access from Week 2 — no "intern sandbox" nonsense
  • A conversion offer if you're good (and we mean actually good, not "showed up consistently" good)
  • The ability to tell people at CNY/Raya/Deepavali dinner: "I'm a backend engineer at an AI company" — and watch them stop asking when you'll get a "real job"

Fair Warning

We shipped a feature last Tuesday that the founder dreamed up on Monday night. The intern wrote half of it. If that sounds stressful, we're not your company. If that sounds like the most fun you could possibly have during an internship — welcome home.

After interning here, traditional dev jobs will feel like writing assembly with a typewriter. We've spoiled several interns' ability to tolerate slow engineering cultures. Sorry not sorry.

Apply at your own risk.

Awesomeree AI — where your aunty's question "so what do you do ah?" finally has a cool answer.
