Job Description

About This Role

Main responsibilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide array of commercial agreements in the information technology field such as letters of intent, proofs of concept, services agreements, software licenses, data processing agreements and other technology-related contracts in relation to the distribution and implementation of software solutions across Asia Pacific (including China).
  • Providing legal support and advice to various functions within the business, including human resources, marketing, finance, product, delivery, procurement and tax on a variety of legal, compliance and contractual topics/issue. This includes conducting legal research on relevant laws, understanding risks arising and devising mitigation strategies to help the business manage accordingly.
  • Acting as a business partner for the commercial team and working closely with the account managers in supporting sales and business development initiatives.
  • Supporting the Director Legal, Civil – Flight Operations with other corporate transactions/projects in the region.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of various contract models, as well as internal policies for the Flight Operations business in line with current business needs and the anticipated growth of this sector, in collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Monitoring legal developments in the region and proactively advising the business on compliance measures tailored to suit the operations and needs of the relevant functions.
  • Engaging and managing outside counsel where specialized advice or support on more complex legal matters are required, including litigation.
  • Implementing legal & compliance trainings and other initiatives for the business across the region.
  • Collaborating with and contributing towards various projects of the global Legal team.
  • Providing advice on the interpretation of laws and regulations applicable to CAE’s activities and on the best practices applicable in the information technology sector.

Skills and Experience:

  • A law degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing in at least one common law jurisdiction.
  • At least 7-10 years of qualified experience in an established law firm or as in-house counsel in an international organization.
  • Excellent proven contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Chinese (spoken and/or written) is a plus.
  • Relevant experience in IT law and in data protection laws/regulations is a significant asset.
