JOB PURPOSE

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Project Engineer to support the execution of solar PV and energy efficiency projects across the Southern region. This role will be based in Johor and will work closely with the Engineering team to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with technical and safety standards.

This position provides strong exposure to end-to-end solar project implementation, including design support, site supervision, testing, and commissioning. Immediate joiners are preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering Design & Technical Development

• Develop and review detailed system designs for solar PV projects (on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid systems), including Site layouts and panel arrangement (rooftop & ground-mounted), Mechanical racking and attachment plans, Single-line diagrams (SLD) and schematic drawings, Cable sizing calculations and technical equipment selection, BOS specifications, interconnection details, and labelling.
• Prepare and validate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Bill of Materials (BOM) for project execution.
• Contribute to preparation of technical specifications, proposals, and contract documentation.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant electrical codes, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.

Project Planning & Scope Management

• Define project scope, objectives, and technical deliverables in coordination with internal stakeholders and clients.
• Support project scheduling, resource planning, and execution strategy.
• Evaluate technical feasibility and identify project risks during early stages.
• Support projects across Residential, Commercial & Industrial (C&I), and Large-Scale Solar (LSS) installations as assigned.

Site Execution & Supervision

• Lead day-to-day site supervision and coordinate subcontractors to ensure works are executed according to approved drawings and specifications.
• Monitor build progress and ensure site readiness before construction begins.
• Identify potential technical or site issues and implement corrective actions to avoid delays.
• Attend site meetings and respond to client, consultant, and contractor queries.

Quality Control & Compliance

• Conduct quality inspections to verify adherence to design specifications and installation standards.
• Ensure compliance with local electrical regulations, safety standards, and authority requirements.
• Review technical submissions and ensure regulatory alignment.

Testing, Commissioning & Handover

• Lead or support testing and commissioning of PV systems.
• Set up and configure remote monitoring systems.
• Verify system performance and support project handover documentation.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Oversee and support solar PV/energy efficiency installation, repair, and maintenance activities when required.
• Perform electrical troubleshooting for post-installation issues.
• Ensure minimal downtime and effective resolution of site technical matters.

People Management & Team Leadership 

• Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers and site staff. 
• Assist in mentoring and developing junior team members.
• Support task allocation and coordination among team members. 
• Promote teamwork and maintain effective communication within the project team.

Documentation & Reporting

• Conduct site inspections and prepare technical reports for internal records.
• Maintain proper documentation of engineering drawings, revisions, and project records.
• Monitor inventory of equipment, tools, and materials required for project execution.

Cross-Functional & Ad-Hoc Support

• Collaborate with Sales, Procurement, and Operations teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Support management on ad-hoc engineering or operational assignments as required.

Others

• Ad-hoc electrical troubleshooting and routine maintenance tasks for projects sites (post-installation) across Residential, Commercial & Industrial (C&I), and Large-Scale Solar (LSS) projects as assigned and other ad hoc projects when required by management.

Job Requirements

JOB COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENT

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a sales team.
• Proficiency in engineering software tools such as AutoCAD or similar.
• Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve project-related challenges.
• Proficiency in MS Office (in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
