Unit A28-05, 5th Floor 3 Two Square Commercial Centre No.2, Jalan 19/1, 46300 Petaling Jaya Selangor Darul Ehsan, Selangor

Job Description

We are looking for a hands-on Creative Lead to drive the creative vision at Gary Chong Studios. This role is ideal for a senior storyteller who is confident in leading shoots, managing creative teams, and shaping narratives through post-production, with a strong understanding of how stories come together from concept to final cut.

You will be responsible for guiding projects end-to-end—commanding the creative direction on set, leading a team of videographers and editors, and ensuring consistency across production and post-production. Every creative decision, from script and visuals to pacing, music, and final edit, must serve both the story and the client’s objectives while maintaining high production value.

This is not a purely conceptual or desk-based role. We are looking for someone who can step onto set, lead teams confidently, make decisions under pressure, and elevate the overall quality of work through strong creative and editorial leadership.

As a Creative Lead at Gary Chong Studios, you will:

  • Lead the creative development of projects across corporate films, commercials, brand campaigns, festive films, and digital content.
  • Translate client briefs into clear concepts, treatments, and scripts with strong storytelling direction.
  • Command and direct shoots, guiding performance, framing, visual style, and storytelling execution on set.
  • Manage and lead a team of videographers and editors, setting creative standards, workflows, and expectations for quality and delivery.
  • Work closely with producers to plan shoots, allocate resources, and ensure the production team executes efficiently.
  • Oversee the full production lifecycle—from pre-production planning and shoot execution to post-production and final delivery—ensuring creative consistency throughout.
  • Provide strong editorial direction in post-production, guiding story structure, pacing, emotional beats, music selection, and overall narrative flow.
  • Review cuts and deliver clear, actionable, and constructive feedback to editors and creative team members.
  • Mentor and develop the videography and editing team, fostering a culture of story-first thinking, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Balance creative ambition with practicality, ensuring ideas are achievable within timelines and budgets.

Job Requirements

  • 4–6 years of experience in a creative role within a production house, advertising agency, or media company.
  • Proven experience leading shoots and managing teams of videographers and editors in a professional production environment.
  • Prior experience as a Creative Lead, Creative Director, Director, Senior Editor, Senior Copywriter, or Scriptwriter is highly valued.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin (spoken and written) is required, as the role involves handling Mandarin-speaking clients, reviewing Chinese scripts, and leading Chinese-language productions.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating storytelling, scriptwriting, and creative direction, with clear examples of on-set leadership and post-production involvement.
  • Solid understanding of editing fundamentals—story structure, pacing, rhythm, emotional flow, and narrative clarity.
  • Experience directing post-production workflows and providing strong editorial feedback to editors.
  • Strong grasp of visual storytelling, brand communication, and audience engagement across various video formats.
  • Ability to translate client objectives into structured scripts, treatments, and creative frameworks that guide videographers, editors, and production teams.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, able to align teams, command a set, and drive creative standards.
  • Calm, decisive, and solutions-oriented mindset, comfortable making creative decisions under pressure.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment with evolving creative and operational demands.
