BHD., you will join a hands-on manufacturing team that designs and delivers laser systems and industrial automation for regional production lines. We value engineers who take CAD models into the workshop and then out to the customer floor.

As a Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Automation Machines, your role is to be the builder: convert concepts into production-ready equipment that improves throughput and reliability. You will design mechanical structures, iterate prototypes, run workshop validation and support factory acceptance testing through to site handover.

You will collaborate daily with controls, electrical and production colleagues, and coordinate with local suppliers and fabricators across Malaysia. Success looks like robust machines running on customer lines, clear build documentation and fewer on-site adjustments.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities

Design & Development

• You will create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for machine frames, fixtures and moving components using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and keep version-controlled drawings and BOMs.
• You will choose actuators, bearings, fasteners and sensors, and perform basic calculations to meet load, tolerance and safety requirements.
• You will convert concepts into workshop-ready assemblies, run prototype iterations and apply test feedback to improve robustness.
• You will coordinate mechanical and control interfaces with our electrical and controls teams at HANS LASER TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY GROUP (MALAYSIA) SDN. BHD.

Testing & Commissioning

• You will plan and run mechanical validation in the workshop to confirm kinematics, clearances and repeatability.
• You will support site commissioning by supervising installations, resolving fit and alignment issues, and guiding adjustments on customer lines.
• You will prepare clear test reports, adjustment logs and handover documentation for production and customers.
• You will work with maintenance to define preventive checklists and spare parts lists for smoother operations.

Cross-Functional Delivery

• You will coordinate with controls, electrical and production teams to ensure seamless integration with PLCs, servo systems and safety circuits.
• You will source and evaluate local suppliers and fabricators to improve manufacturability, cost and lead times.
• You will propose practical design or process changes that reduce assembly time and on-line defects.
• You will assist quality teams with inspections and root cause analysis for mechanical issues found in the field.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or an equivalent technical diploma supported by a strong portfolio of machine work.
• About 2 years of hands-on experience in machine design, fabrication or industrial automation projects, with practical workshop exposure.
• Experience in a manufacturing or machine-building environment is preferred, including participation in on-site commissioning activities.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites within Malaysia for installation and commissioning as required.

Hard Skills & Knowledge

• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and 2D drawing tools such as AutoCAD for production-ready documentation.
• Practical knowledge of mechanical systems including gears, belts, bearings, basic pneumatics and hydraulic principles.
• Basic understanding of PLC signals, servo drives and industrial sensors to coordinate effectively with controls engineers.
• Ability to produce BOMs, tolerance stacks and carry out simple FEA or hand calculations to validate designs.

Soft Skills & Qualities

• Clear communicator who can explain technical details to engineers, fabricators and production staff, both written and verbal.
• Practical problem solver who stays calm on the shop floor and finds workable fixes under time pressure.
• Organised with the ability to manage small project timelines, keep accurate build records and follow change control.
• Curious and coachable, open to learning new tools and improving processes from workshop and field feedback.
