Job Description
Build Power BI dashboards and maintain query scripts to extract, clean, and model data from the company database for reporting and decision-making.
Key responsibilities
- Write and maintain SQL queries (views/stored queries/scripts) to extract data from DB tables safely and efficiently.
- Understand the business questions (ops, sales, warehouse, finance) and translate them into report requirements and metrics.
- Build Power BI datasets: data modelling (star schema), relationships, calculated columns/measures (DAX), and refresh logic.
- Create dashboards and reports with drilldowns, filters, and clear definitions (metric logic, date logic, exclusions).
- Set up scheduled refresh (gateway if needed), monitor failures, and fix breaking changes when the DB schema shifts.
- Validate data accuracy: reconciliation against source tables and spot checks with stakeholders.
- Document everything: data dictionary, query notes, metric definitions, and refresh/runbook steps.
- Support ad hoc analysis requests and small automation tasks (export, parameterised queries, basic ETL improvements).

- Comfortable with SQL (joins, window functions, CTEs, grouping, date handling, performance basics).
- Power BI fundamentals: Power Query, data modelling, DAX measures, visuals, slicers, row-level logic (nice-to-have).
- Understands basic analytics hygiene: grain, duplicates, slowly changing attributes, null handling.
- Good communication: can explain numbers and assumptions, not just build charts.
