Manager, Business Development

This dual-role position (General Manager & Business Development Manager) combines leadership of Hibiscus’ renewable energy business line with the development of new strategic ventures across the Group. As General Manager, the role holds end-to-end accountability for project delivery and operations, from execution through to long-term performance, ensuring strong financial outcomes, effective commercial management, and adherence to governance standards. In parallel, as Business Development Manager, the role drives the identification, evaluation, and advancement of new business opportunities in areas such as energy transition, renewables, and power generation, working closely with partners, financiers, and internal stakeholders to deliver sustainable growth and value creation.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
General Manager
- Project Leadership & Delivery
- Assume full lifecycle accountability for solar projects, from development and execution through to commissioning and long-term operations.
- Oversee contractors and service providers to ensure delivery in line with schedule, budget, and performance targets.
- Financial & Commercial Management
- Own project P&L, budgeting, cash flow, and financial performance.
- Oversee payment structures, milestone certifications, and cost control.
- Oversee project financing, including lender coordination and compliance.
- Contract & Performance Oversight
- Ensure effective implementation of Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contracts, including performance KPIs.
- Manage commercial issues, variations, and claims.
- Governance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to Group governance frameworks.
- Act as key liaison with shareholders, Board, and internal stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Management
- Represent the organization in engagements with regulators, partners, contractors, and financiers.
- Lead reporting to Management and Board on project status, risks, and performance.
- Expansion & Value Creation
- Identify and progress expansion opportunities (e.g., additional solar capacity / offtakers).
- Support development of future initiatives.
Business Development Manager
- Project Development & Origination
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new business lines and revenue streams for Hibiscus Group, including opportunities in energy transition, renewables, technology, and power generation.
- Engage with developers, industrial offtakers, and strategic partners.
- Financial Modelling & Business Case
- Develop financial models, revenue models, and investment cases.
- Assess project feasibility, returns, and risk profiles.
- Commercial Structuring & Negotiation
- Lead structuring of commercial arrangements including tariff frameworks and risk allocation.
- Support negotiations with clients, partners, and consortium members.
- Financing Strategy
- Engage financial institutions to assess funding options, terms, and bankability.
- Support development of optimal financing structures.
- Due Diligence & Partnerships
- Lead financial and commercial due diligence on partners and projects.
- Support structuring of Joint Venture (JV) arrangements and strategic collaborations.
- Governance & Approvals
- Prepare and drive internal approvals for key project milestones.
- Ensure alignment with Group strategy and risk appetite.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5-years of relevant experience in infrastructure, energy, utilities, or related sectors, with exposure to both project execution and development environments.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with demonstrated experience in:
- Financial modelling, business case development, and investment evaluation
- Structuring commercial arrangements (e.g., tariffs, risk allocation, key contractual terms)
- Supporting negotiations with clients, partners, and contractors
- Prior experience in power, energy, or infrastructure projects is preferred but not mandatory.
- Exposure to project financing processes, including engagement with financial institutions, lenders, or advisors is desirable.
- Experience working in cross-functional and multi-party environments, including coordination with technical, legal, and finance teams; exposure to JV or consortium structures is desirable.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across senior management, partners, regulators, and external counterparties.
- Commercially driven mindset with the ability to balance risk, return, and execution realities in developing and delivering projects.
- Willingness to travel regularly, including:
- Periodic travel to Brunei to support project execution and operational oversight.
- Frequent travel within Malaysia for stakeholder engagement and project development.
