Senior Analyst, Financial Reporting

The Senior Analyst, Financial Reporting is responsible for detail review of the internal and external reporting of the financial results and is primarily responsible in the review of finance month end reporting process, preparation of financial statements, provide detail variance analysis and support group finance reporting.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Review monthly financial results reports, analyze and explain key variances in financial results.
  • Approved the transfer of the Asset Under Construction on monthly basis to the depletion pool.
  • Review and review asset continuity and computation of depletion, depreciation, and amortization
  • Review asset retirement obligation monthly accretion entries and quarter change in discount rate entries.
  • Review forecasted Net book value for year end impairment assessment exercise.
  • Review, assess and coordinate with the procurement team and contract owners on the lease contracts to be registered as IFRS 16 Leases.
  • Review the creation of new cost center for each lease contract identified and reconcile the lease transactions booked in the general ledger against the discounted cash flows, ensure all new lease and lease adjustments are updated on monthly basis.
  • Review crude oil revaluation entries including review of Unit cost of production per barrel, closing inventories balances.
  • Review quarterly reports for group reporting including Cost of Sales, Effective Tax Rate, Quarterly Profit & Loss analysis and balance sheet analysis.
  • Review the financial statements for statutory (Barbados) and branch (Malaysian FRS), in accordance to IFRS and group accounting policy.
  • Key focal point for statutory financial statements audit.
  • Coordinate review of Annual Asset Retirement Obligation (“ARO”) estimation with business users, review and explain changes in estimates, including preparation of annual ARO technical and accounting write-up for internal and external auditors.
  • Review insurance prepayment account on quarterly basis against the insurance allocation worksheet prepared by PSC and resolve any discrepancies found.
  • Review team on any queries on monthly accrual posting, recovery of disapproved expats cost and other PSC audit issues.
  • Coordinate with PSC team to resolve unreconciled differences between joint venture partner account in general ledger as compared to Joint Interest Billing report.
  • Review overall financial results and Sigma consolidation pack for group reporting preparation.
  • Review preparation of Board of Directors meeting materials.
  • Support enquiries from Business Unit departments on matters related to financial information.
  • Assist tax team on PITA submission to Malaysian Inland Revenue Board, and any tax audit on accounting related issues, provide supporting document and justification to tax team.
  • Assist tax team in Transfer pricing review information.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent qualification from recognized universities.
  • A recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g. CA ANZ, ICAEW, ACCA, CPA) is preferred.
  • At least 8 years experience in the general accounting or of similar capacity.
  • Prior experience as an external auditor in reputable audit multinational firms will be an advantage.
  • Experience within the upstream oil and gas industry is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting standards and application.
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with positive and proactive attitude.
  • Proficiency in SUN Systems and Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, Power Points) applications would be a strong plus.
  • Good verbal and communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, strong analytical and financial analysis capabilities, high attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including finance, accounting, and business operations, to gather data, share insights, and drive financial outcomes.
