Job Description

As a Forward Deployed Engineer II (Systems & Performance), you will support the delivery of performance-sensitive systems into real customer environments, helping power how SupplyOS acquires, processes, and reasons over data in operational settings.

This role is suited for early–mid career engineers who are strong in systems fundamentals and eager to gain hands-on experience working on real deployments, customer-facing technical problems, and production systems under guidance from senior FDEs and platform engineers.

You will contribute to customer Proof-of-Concepts (POCs), deployments, and system optimisation efforts, while developing deeper expertise in low-level systems, data acquisition, and edge environments.

1. Customer Engagement Support

• Support customer engagements from discovery through deployment, under the guidance of senior FDEs.
• Participate in customer discussions to understand operational requirements, constraints, and success criteria.
• Help translate business and operational needs into technical tasks and implementation plans.
• Act as a supporting technical contact during POCs and early-stage deployments.

2. Systems & Performance Engineering

• Implement and maintain performance-sensitive components in Rust and/or C++.
• Contribute to systems for data ingestion, buffering, transformation, and real-time or near-real-time processing.
• Assist with profiling, benchmarking, and optimisation for latency, throughput, and memory usage.
• Learn to make practical engineering trade-offs in constrained deployment environments.

3. Edge, IoT & Data Acquisition Workloads

• Support the development of customer-specific data acquisition components for edge or industrial environments.
• Work with different protocols, data formats, and runtime environments.
• Help ensure systems can handle partial failures, intermittent connectivity, and imperfect data.

4. Deployment & Operations

• Work alongside Platform Engineering and DevOps teams to deploy and operate SupplyOS environments.
• Assist with performance tuning, reliability improvements, and post-deployment stabilisation.
• Contribute to monitoring, logging, and operational documentation.

5. Product & Engineering Contributions

• Identify common customer issues and contribute feedback to improve the core SupplyOS platform.
• Contribute production-quality code and configurations under review.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and internal knowledge sharing.
• Learn from and collaborate closely with senior FDEs and engineers.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 2-4 years of professional experience in systems programming, backend engineering, or infrastructure-related roles.
• Working proficiency in Rust and/or C++, with exposure to memory management and concurrency concepts.
• Solid understanding of operating systems fundamentals (threads, processes, memory, I/O).
• Experience contributing to production software systems.
• Willingness to work directly with customers and adapt in ambiguous environments.

Preferred-to-have

• Exposure to edge computing, IoT systems, or data pipelines.
• Basic experience with profiling or debugging tools (e.g. perf, flamegraphs, sanitizers).
• Familiarity with Linux environments and containers (Docker).
• Introductory understanding of distributed systems concepts.
• Curiosity, strong learning mindset, and a sense of ownership for assigned work.
