Job Description

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall strategic and operational success of the metal stamping manufacturing facility. This role involves leading all functions, including production, quality assurance, engineering, maintenance, supply chain, and administrative services, to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality products, meeting customer requirements, and other related operation.

Duties and responsibilities

A. Operational & Production Management


-Manufacturing Efficiency: Oversee daily production activities, ensuring optimal utilization of stamping presses, tooling, and secondary machinery (e.g., welding, assembly, finishing).
-Capacity Planning: Develop and execute production plans, manage manufacturing capacity, and implement strategies to improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness). -Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to reduce waste, shorten lead times, and lower manufacturing costs.
-Facility Oversight: Ensure the physical plant and equipment are maintained to world- class standards, managing capital expenditure for equipment upgrades and facility expansions.

B. Quality, Safety, & Compliance
-Quality System: Directly oversee the successful execution of Advanced Product Quality Planning and the submission and approval of all necessary Production Part Approval Process packages for new product launches, ensuring strict compliance with customer engineering specifications.

-Defect Reduction: Establish programs to aggressively reduce DPMO (Defects Per Million Opportunities) and manage the use of precision measurement equipment (e.g., CMM).
-EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety): Champion a proactive safety culture. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal EHS regulations and strive for an accident- free workplace.

C. Strategic Leadership & People Management

Strategic Direction: Set the long-term vision and strategic objectives for the plant, aligning them with the corporate strategy.
-Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the plant management team and all employees. Conduct performance reviews and implement effective succession planning. Culture: Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment focused on excellence and continuous learning.

D. Tooling Lifecycle:

Oversee the proactive maintenance and lifecycle management of high-precision stamping dies and tools to guarantee part quality consistency across millions of cycles, minimizing tool wear-related defects.

E Operational & Supply Chain Management
-Material Sourcing & Negotiation: Lead the negotiation and management of contracts with key raw material suppliers (e.g., specific grades of steel, galvanized, stainless) to secure competitive pricing, optimal lead times, and predictable quality.
-Inventory Optimization: Implement advanced inventory control strategies (e.g., JIT/Kanban) to optimize working capital while mitigating the risk of stock-outs or obsolescence. Maintain high accuracy in inventory records.
-Logistics & Distribution: Manage inbound logistics for raw materials and outbound logistics for finished goods, ensuring timely, cost-effective delivery to customer assembly plants, often requiring sequencing or ASN (Advance Shipping Notice) compliance.
-Risk Management: Develop contingency plans for supply chain disruptions, material shortages, and major equipment failures to guarantee business continuity and minimize production downtime
-Cost Reduction: Identify and implement cost-saving measures throughout the value chain, from raw material sourcing (e.g., steel, aluminum) to final product delivery.

F Overseen indirect department job function such as HR, Customers Service, facilities , warehouse and so on.


Job Requirements

Education & Professional Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Automotive Engineering. A Master’s degree or MBA in Operations/Manufacturing is preferred.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in metal stamping, automotive parts, or precision engineering industries.
  • Proven experience in plant/operations leadership, managing teams of 100+ employees, and handling multi-functional departments including production, quality, engineering, maintenance, and supply chain.

Technical & Operational Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of stamping and metal forming processes, including tooling, press operations, welding, assembly, and finishing.
  • Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and cost optimization.
  • Solid understanding of quality systems (APQP, PPAP), defect reduction strategies, and use of precision measurement tools (e.g., CMM).
  • Experience in production planning, capacity optimization, and implementing ERP/MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of EHS regulations in Malaysia and ability to drive a safety-first culture in the plant.

Leadership & People Management:

  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire and develop local talent in Melaka, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven track record in succession planning, performance management, and talent development across multi-level teams.
  • Ability to lead change management initiatives and drive operational excellence in a multi-cultural workforce.

Supply Chain & Commercial Acumen:

  • Experience in sourcing, contract negotiation, and supplier management within the Malaysian or regional supply chain context.
  • Strong analytical skills for inventory management, cost reduction, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Understanding of logistics and distribution requirements for automotive/metal stamping parts, including ASN compliance and JIT/Kanban systems.
