Job Description

The primary focus of this role is application and product software.

You'll work on areas including:

• Web applications using Angular and TypeScript
• Desktop applications using Electron
• Cross-platform mobile applications using Capacitor
• iOS and Android applications
• MIDI, SysEx, Web MIDI and Bluetooth MIDI
• Communication with USB-connected hardware
• APIs and backend services
• Device configuration and firmware update workflows
• New software products and subscription-based services
• Automated testing, CI/CD and release infrastructure

You may be debugging a browser compatibility problem one day, designing a new editor feature the next, and investigating communication between an application and a physical device after that.

Hardware and embedded firmware are currently owned by the co-founder and are not a core responsibility of this role.

However, if you have genuine interest or experience in embedded C/C++ and microcontroller development, there may be opportunities to contribute over time, particularly around shared libraries, communication protocols and areas where application software and firmware meet.

This is a bonus, not a requirement.

You'll be expected to:

• Understand the problem before implementing a solution
• Propose technical approaches where appropriate
• Build, test and release features
• Investigate and resolve real customer issues
• Review and improve existing architecture
• Communicate clearly when something is blocked or carries technical risk
• Take responsibility for the quality of what you ship
• Leave systems easier to maintain than you found them
• You should be comfortable being given a problem rather than a detailed list of instructions.

Job Requirements

• Around 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience taking ownership of a product, application or major feature area.
• Strong TypeScript and JavaScript fundamentals.
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks, ideally Angular.
• Experience designing and maintaining production applications.
• Good understanding of APIs, asynchronous programming and application architecture.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to understand unfamiliar systems and investigate problems independently.
• Good written and spoken English.
• A strong sense of ownership over the quality of your work.
