Job Description

A. Tool & Die Design and Development

  1. Design new stamping dies, jigs, and fixtures for metal stamping and sheet metal fabrication processes.
  2. Interpret engineering drawings, product specifications, and CAD data to develop accurate tool designs.
  3. Utilize CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for design and simulation of tooling layouts.
  4. Review tool design feasibility, manufacturability, and serviceability before fabrication.
  5. Create detailed drawings according to ANSI Y14.5 and GD&T standards.

B. Tool Fabrication, Assembly, and Maintenance

  1. Coordinate with internal toolmakers and external vendors for tooling fabrication, modification, and repair.
  2. Conduct tool trials, validation, and fine-tuning to achieve part dimensional accuracy and consistency.
  3. Support tool maintenance plans and preventive measures to reduce downtime and extend tooling life.
  4. Analyze tool failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

C. Process Optimization and Improvement

  1. Collaborate with Production and QA to troubleshoot part defects caused by tool wear or misalignment.
  2. Study and improve die performance, part ejection, and tool changeover efficiency.
  3. Introduce design improvements to reduce rework, downtime, and tooling costs.
  4. Lead continuous improvement initiatives for productivity, process stability, and toolingefficiency.
  5. Prepare and review tool cost breakdowns, supplier quotations, and cost models to meet project budgets.
  6. Develop and update tooling cost forecasts using historical data and product complexity.
  7. Support new product introduction (NPI) projects with tool cost estimation andfeasibility analysis.
  8. Work closely with purchasing and suppliers to ensure cost-effective tooling solutions.

E. Technical Support and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  1. Provide technical advice to designers, engineers, and production teams on tool design and maintenance.
  2. Participate in cross-department meetings to ensure tooling readiness aligns with production schedules.
  3. Liaise with vendors and contractors on tool fabrication progress and technical compliance.
  4. Support QA in dimensional validation and first article inspection (FAI) using CMM/VMM measurement data.

Job Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die, Manufacturing, or equivalent field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in tool and die design, metal stamping, or sheet metal manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling materials, heat treatment, press setup, and tool troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and part dimensional inspectionprinciples.
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a cross-functional team.
