Site Reliability Engineer

Lightspeed

Job Description

Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well… you might just be in the right place!

We’re looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our team in Auckland. You will join the Site Reliability Engineering Team (SRE) as an essential member, taking on the distinctive tasks associated with ensuring the continuous availability and reliability of Lightspeed's infrastructure. The ideal candidate for this role is open to providing technical advice and weighing in on technical decisions that impact other teams or the company at large, proactively seeking empirical evidence through proof of concepts, tests and external research.

Lightspeed's retail platform runs on top of a cutting edge dockerised cloud-based infrastructure. It handles a whooping 100k requests per minute and delights customers across the globe. We jumped into the microservice architecture wagon long ago, which means that our Engineering team has created 100+ microservices. Some companies claim they do Continuous Delivery, but a few actually breathe and live it day in day out. At Lightspeed we deploy multiple times a day, on average 110 times a day without any human interaction.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Technical Delivery: Writing code, code reviews, fixing bugs, incident and outage response, troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for issues in production, contribute to the SRE tooling ecosystem making our cloud infrastructure easy to maintain
  • Planning and architecture: Estimating and collaborating with other SRE Engineers in planning and retrospective meetings, reducing manual work through automation
  • Learning and helping others:Assisting other engineering teams provisioning services or with requests, helping other engineers with training sessions, documentation and technical information

And a little bit of…

  • Contribution as part of the wider team to achieve organisational objectives even if this means doing things that aren’t strictly within the scope of your role!

What you need to bring:

We're looking for a candidate who has experience with the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in development with one or more languages, ideally a mix of scripting languages and compiled languages, e.g: Python and Go
  • Previous experience with Public Cloud: AWS, GCP, Azure, or OpenStack
  • Demonstrated experience with Infrastructure as code tools, such as Terraform or Cloudformation
  • Proven experience using configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible
  • Experience in Linux systems and Bash scripting management
  • Experience with Kafka is a bonus (but not needed!)
  • A good understanding of modern development strategies (CI/CD) and DevOps principles, familiarity with managing RDBMS databases (e.g MySQL, PostgreSQL) and comfortable working with git based projects

We know that people are more than what’s on their CV. If you’re unsure that you have the right profile for the role... hit the ‘Apply’ button and give it a try!

What’s in it for you?

Come live the Lightspeed experience...

  • Ability to do your job in a truly flexible environment;
  • Genuine career opportunities in a company that’s creating new jobs everyday;
  • Work in a team big enough for growth but lean enough to make a real impact.

  • Unlimited paid time off policy
  • Work remotely from anywhere in the world for up to 60 days per year
