Job Description

We are seeking L1 On-Site Engineers to provide 24x7 first-line, hands-on operational support at a mission-critical AI/GPU data centre. The role focuses on physical-layer inspection, hardware handling (including FRU replacement and rack work), environmental and asset monitoring, and prompt escalation to remote L2/L3 engineering teams or OEM support to keep the facility running smoothly. This position is suitable for individuals building a career in data centre infrastructure and critical operations.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 24x7 on-site standby support at the data centre, ensuring the site is continuously attended in accordance with the shift roster.
• Perform daily patrol and inspection of server racks and equipment, including checking equipment status, indicator lights and alarm signals.
• Inspect and verify power cables, network cables and fibre-optic connections.
• Carry out hardware replacement (FRU – Field Replaceable Unit) and equipment installation/removal (rack-in / rack-out) as instructed by the client or equipment vendor.
• Identify and record fault information, and escalate issues promptly to the remote L2/L3 engineering team or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) support when required.
• Provide Smart Hands support for remote engineering teams, including cable tracing, console connections, equipment reboot, component replacement and visual inspection.
• Monitor environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, power alarms and water leakage alerts.
• Verify authorised access to the data hall and comply with site security procedures.
• Create, update and maintain maintenance tickets on the operations ticketing platform, ensuring records are accurate and complete.
• Maintain accurate assets records on the assets management platform, including check-in, check-out and stock updates.
• Support emergency incidents and cooperate with on-site client operations and procedures.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOP) and escalation workflows at all times.
• Escort and supervise equipment vendors and contractors while working inside the data centre where required.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• At least 1 year of working experience in an IT-related field, such as data centre operations, NOC, IT infrastructure support or hardware/facilities maintenance.
• Basic understanding of rack-mounted servers, network switches, fiber optic and copper cabling, power distribution units, server indicator LEDs and hardware alarms.
• Comfortable with physical, hands-on tasks such as equipment installation/removal and rack work.
• Basic computer literacy for entering and updating records on ticketing and inventory systems.
• Good verbal and written communication in English. Proficiency in Mandarin is an added advantage.
• Meticulous, responsible, and able to follow SOPs and escalation procedures accurately.
• Willing to work on a rotating shift basis, including night shift, weekends and public holidays.
• Malaysian citizen or valid work permit holder, based near or willing to relocate to the data centre site.
