Job Description

 JOB SUMMARY / JOB PURPOSE 

The Fund Accountant is a critical member of the Fund Accounting department within our company, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records for investment funds. This role involves performing daily valuation and pricing tasks, preparing financial and regulatory reports, managing cash reconciliations, and supporting investor services. The Fund Accountant ensures compliance with accounting standards (e.g. MFRS, IFRS) and regulatory requirements while delivering timely and accurate reporting to clients, management, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and possesses strong knowledge of fund accounting processes and financial instruments. 

Key Responsibilty

  

Fund Valuation & Pricing:

  1. Calculate daily Net Asset Value (NAV) for investment funds, ensuring accuracy in asset and liability valuations.
  2. Verify securities pricing using market data, third-party pricing services, or internal models.
  3. Perform valuations for complex financial instruments, including derivatives, private equity, and foreign currency instruments, adhering to fair value methodologies.

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  1. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for clients, management, and regulatory bodies (e.g., Securities Commission filings, investor statements).
  2. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and accounting standards (e.g. MFRS, IFRS).
  3. Prepare and distribute tax-related documents, such as tax vouchers, in compliance with local tax regulations.
  4. Support external auditors by providing documentation and reconciliations for annual audits.

Cash Management & Reconciliation:

  1. Reconcile fund cash positions against bank statements and custodial records.
  2. Monitor fund liquidity to support capital calls, distributions, and payment of management fees.
  3. Perform intercompany reconciliations for related entities, such as feeder and master funds.

Transaction Processing & Journal Entries:

  1. Capture and settle trades accurately, including placements, equity, fixed income, and derivatives transactions.
  2. Create and post journal entries for fund transactions, accruals, management fees, and other expenses.
  3. Manage accruals for fund expenses, including performance fees, fund accounting fees, and administrative costs.

Investor Services & Client Reporting:

  1. Process capital calls and distributions for investors, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  2. Prepare investor statements detailing holdings, performance, and transactions.
  3. Provide performance attribution reports and benchmark calculations for clients.
  4. Address client-specific requests, such as customized financial reports or IFRS 9 reporting.

Risk Management & Internal Controls:

  1. Implement controls to ensure accuracy in the valuation process and mitigate errors.
  2. Conduct internal audits and maintain procedures to prevent fraud or misstatements.
  3. Identify and mitigate financial risks, including liquidity, credit, and market risks.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Review income distribution projections and final details for wholesale/unit trust funds.
  2. Coordinate with external auditors and tax agents for audit and taxation matters.
  3. Ensure timely payment of management, trustee, and accounting fees to custodians and trustees.
  4. Perform ad-hoc tasks as assigned to support the Fund Accounting department.

Flexible Task Assignment

  1. Undertake additional responsibilities as directed by management to contribute to the department’s success and adaptability.

Job Requirements

Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of accounting standards (MFRS, IFRS) and asset management regulatory requirements, with proficiency in local regulations like Securities Commission guidelines, tax compliance for investment funds, income distribution processes, and investor reporting duties.

Skills: Demonstrates strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, and effective communication skills, combined with the ability to thrive under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple priorities. Excels in fostering collaboration with internal teams such as Finance, Investment Operations, Investment and Customer Service, as well as external partners like bankers, custodians, and auditors.

Experiences: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in fund accounting or related roles within asset management or financial services, with expertise in NAV calculations, securities pricing, financial reporting, and familiarity with auditing processes and collaboration with external auditors and tax agents.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA or CFA are highly desirable.
