Our activities combine hands-on farming, operational record-keeping and continuous improvement to support efficient urban farm management.
Role Description
We are looking for responsible, enthusiastic and hands-on Urban Farming Interns to join CyberfarmUR.
This is an on-site internship where you will gain practical experience in daily farm operations, including plant care, harvesting, packing, farm maintenance, record-keeping and basic agricultural research. You will work under the guidance of the farm supervisor while learning about urban agriculture, plant health and sustainable farming practices.
This role involves both physical farm work and basic administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Care
- Assist with seed sowing, transplanting, watering and harvesting.
- Monitor plant growth and identify signs of pests, diseases or nutrient deficiencies.
- Support plant-health and pest-management activities under the guidance of the farm supervisor.
- Help maintain suitable growing conditions for crops.
- Record observations relating to crop growth and plant health.
Farm Maintenance
- Help maintain growing areas, equipment, tools, irrigation systems and nutrient systems.
- Carry out routine cleaning and sanitation activities throughout the farm.
- Report damaged equipment, leaks or operational issues promptly.
- Follow the farm’s safety, hygiene and operating procedures.
- Help ensure that all work areas remain clean, organised and safe.
Harvesting and Packing
- Assist with harvesting crops according to the required maturity and quality standards.
- Carry out post-harvest cleaning, sorting, weighing and packing.
- Prepare produce for storage, delivery or distribution.
- Maintain cleanliness and product quality throughout the handling process.
- Record harvest quantities and report any quality issues.
Records and Inventory
- Record plant growth, harvest quantities and daily farm activities.
- Assist with inventory checks for seeds, nutrients, packaging materials and farm supplies.
- Perform basic data entry using spreadsheets or other record-keeping systems.
- Help organise farm documents, photographs and operational records.
- Ensure that recorded information is accurate and updated.
Basic Research and Farm Improvement
- Conduct basic research on crops, growing methods, plant health, nutrients and sustainable farming practices.
- Gather and organise information from reliable online, academic or industry sources.
- Assist with small farm trials, observations and data collection when required.
- Compare findings and identify practical ideas that may improve farm operations.
- Prepare short research summaries, presentations or reports for the farm supervisor.
- Support other improvement projects assigned by the farm team.
General Farm Operations
- Support other farm and operational duties assigned by the farm supervisor.
- Assist with deliveries, events, educational activities or work at other locations when required.
- Help with the preparation of materials for farm visits, demonstrations or community programmes.
- Work collaboratively with the team to ensure daily tasks are completed properly and on time.
