Job Description & Summary

PwC Actuarial Services Malaysia is part of Asia Actuarial Services, which covers markets across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. A career with us provides you an excellent opportunity to work with a wide range of clients (insurers, Takaful operators, insurtech, banks, regulators and public sector organization). You will perform work across multiple domains including liability valuation, solvency & economic capital, modelling, mergers and acquisitions, new license applications, business planning and climate risk.

You will be based in Malaysia, although you will be serving clients from Malaysia as well as other markets covered by Asia Actuarial Services. You will manage small engagement teams that perform actuarial audit of life insurance and family takaful companies on Malaysia RBC and MFRS17 bases, and also engagements related to other areas of life insurance practice (e.g. pricing, risk and capital management, M&A, modelling).


The following competencies will be needed to perform well in this role:

  • Demonstrate actuarial technical capabilities. Be able to discuss complex issues with the engagement team and the client. Keep informed of professional standards and firm policies (e.g., Actuarial Standards of Practice), and effectively apply this knowledge to client situations. Demonstrate the ability to quickly assimilate new knowledge. Remain current on new regulations concerning the insurance industry and relevant financial reporting standards.

  • Manage client engagements. Consistently deliver quality client services. Drive high-quality output within expected timeframes. Monitor progress, manage risk and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes. Manage expectations of client service delivery.

  • Effectively lead and motivate teams with diverse skills and backgrounds. Provide constructive on-the-job feedback/coaching to team members. Play an active role in counselling and mentoring team members.

  • Actively participate in business development activities. Prepare proposals and presentations. Contribute to generating new business opportunities. Develop and maintain client relationships and networks. Develop relationships with team members across PwC practices to serve client needs. Stay abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to the client's business.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years relevant experience in actuarial, risk management or other related fields.

  • University education in actuarial sciences or equivalent fields.

  • Completed or made advanced progress on actuarial exams.

  • Working knowledge of Malaysia statutory valuation & RBC and IFRS17.

  • Good problem solving, project management and decision-making skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge in the following would be an advantage:

o Financial reporting, capital management, ERM

o Market Consistent Embedded Value, Economic Capital and Solvency II

o Actuarial software (e.g. Prophet)
