The job responsibilities of a SOC internship

1. Monitoring and analyzing network traffic for suspicious activity. The intern will assist L1 and L2 analysts in performing this activity, which includes using security tools and technologies to identify and investigate potential threats such as malware, intrusions, and denial-of-service attacks.
2. Investigating security incidents and responding to them. The intern will assist L1 and L2 analysts in performing this activity, which includes working with other members of the SOC team to identify the source of the attack, contain the damage, and recover from the incident.
3. Implementing and managing security controls. The intern will assist L1 and L2 analysts in performing this activity, which includes configuring and managing security tools and technologies as well as developing and enforcing security policies and procedures.
4. Documenting security events and findings. The intern will assist L1 and L2 analysts in performing this activity, which includes creating and maintaining records of security incidents as well as the steps taken to investigate and respond to them.
5. Propose and Present an Internship Project. Based on the job responsibilities above, the intern needs to propose and present one simple project or finding during the internship period. This project needs to be related to their job role.

Requirement:

We are offering three (3) to six (6) months internship placement for the position of SOC (Cybersecurity) Intern. The internship period will commence from April 2026. Candidates must be currently pursuing or have completed a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Final-year students are encouraged to apply. Prior working experience is not required; however, basic knowledge of networking, cybersecurity fundamentals, SIEM, or SOC operations will be an added advantage. Applicants should be proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia, while Mandarin will be considered an added advantage. Suitable candidates should possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, high attention to detail, good problem-solving abilities, and the capability to work under pressure in an incident response environment. In addition, candidates should demonstrate good communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility and integrity, teamwork spirit, and a willingness to learn.
