Job Description

Sashimi Asia is looking for an Account Manager to lead a portfolio of our largest, most established clients: mass-market household-name brands across automotive, FMCG, retail and other categories.

This role sits at the heart of how we serve our clients. You'll be the person who truly understands each client's business, their goals, their challenges, and the things they may not even say out loud but need addressed. Your job is to turn that understanding into customised strategies and plans that genuinely move the needle for them, while leading a small team that brings those plans to life.

You'll also play a part in helping these relationships grow naturally over time, through trust, good ideas, and consistent delivery, rather than through hard selling.

Key Responsibilities

Client Relationships & Strategy

  • Build genuine, trust-based relationships with key client stakeholders, going beyond day-to-day requests to understand their broader business context, goals, and pressures
  • Proactively identify clients' spoken and unspoken needs, and translate these into clear, customised strategies and plans
  • Match client challenges and aspirations to the right mix of our services, including social media management, influencer partnerships, paid media, social listening, content/video production, and at times campaigns on traditional platforms
  • Develop briefs for internal teams (video production, content/creative design, Gen AI) that are grounded in a clear understanding of what each client is trying to achieve
  • Lead regular reviews with clients, bringing fresh thinking and recommendations rather than waiting to be asked
  • Stay current on Malaysian digital marketing trends and popular culture, and use this knowledge to shape relevant, timely recommendations and ensure marketing work resonates with today's audiences

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor 3-4 Junior / Senior Executives, overseeing their work across content planning, influencer management, campaign ideation and management, paid media, and reporting
  • Carefully review team output before it goes to clients, checking for accuracy and ensuring the work genuinely addresses the client brief, not just ticks the boxes
  • Support your team's growth, including their use of Gen AI and AI-enabled productivity tools, and ways of working

Business Growth

  • Spot natural opportunities to expand or deepen client partnerships based on a strong understanding of their needs, and bring these forward as recommendations
  • Generate referrals through strong client advocacy and consistent delivery

Commercial Accountability

  • Ensure all team manhours are billed appropriately
  • Review project quotations to ensure gross profit margins meet agency benchmarks
  • Own and report against quarterly OKRs for your portfolio


Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years in media sales, account management, client servicing, or related roles within a digital marketing, advertising, or media agency
  • Native or near-native Bahasa Malaysia fluency, with deep cultural fluency in Malay consumer media habits, digital culture, and online content trends
  • Strong relationship-builder, someone who listens well, asks good questions, and earns trust quickly
  • Critical thinker who can read between the lines of a client request, identify the real business problem, and connect it to the right solution
  • Detail-oriented and meticulous, with the discipline to catch errors and assess whether work truly delivers value, not just whether it's "done"
  • In tune with popular culture and current trends, with a strong sense of what resonates with Malaysian consumers today
  • Working knowledge of Meta, TikTok, and YouTube advertising and content ecosystems
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office (Docs/Sheets/Slides, Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • Comfortable working with modern marketing tools (e.g. Gen AI and AI-enabled productivity tools) and adaptable to new ways of working
  • Strong business acumen, understands margins, billing, and project profitability
  • Own vehicle and valid driving license for regular client meetings
  • Reliable, punctual, and takes ownership of client relationships and team output
