Job Description

Job Description

We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Content Creator & Editor to join Sashimi Social as an assistant to our Senior Executive, Content Creator. This is a junior-level, hands-on role centred on production and post-production: helping on shoots and turning raw footage into scroll-stopping short-form video for some of Malaysia's most recognisable brands. This is an AI-augmented role: you will pair hands-on shooting and editing craft with modern tools like Claude (via Cowork), ChatGPT, and AI-assisted edit features to move faster from brief to first cut, while your reporting senior's and your own judgment stay the deciding factor on pacing, tone, and brand fit. We're also looking for someone genuinely curious and purpose-driven, who wants to build real craft rather than just clock hours. Your contribution will directly support the quality and impact of the short-form video content driving our clients' social presence.

Key Outcomes You Will Drive

  •  Content Production — Shoot and edit short-form video (Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts) for client social channels and KOL/influencer content.
  •  Scroll-Stopping Edits — Turn campaign briefs and raw footage into scroll-stopping edits: pacing, sound design, captions, and simple motion graphics.
  •  Shoot Logistics — Support shoot logistics: equipment, basic lighting and audio setup, locations, and schedules alongside the creative team.
  •  Organised Workflow — Keep footage libraries and project files organised so work can be picked up by teammates without a briefing session.
  •  Collaborative Delivery — Work closely with the account management team and the wider creative team to hit the brief, turn around client feedback within agreed revision cycles, and pitch in on ad-hoc tasks that keep a high-performance, creative environment running.
  •  Trend Tracking — Track what's working on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube (trending audio, formats, and edit styles) and bring that into your work.
  •  AI-Augmented Workflow — Use Claude (via Cowork), ChatGPT, and AI-assisted edit features to speed up scripting, trend research, and rough-cut assembly, while keeping full creative control over pacing, tone, and final quality.
  •  Audience Mastery — Bring real depth to how you understand the Malay demographic in Malaysia. Recognise that it isn't one audience but at least 6 distinct segments, and let that shape the visual style, music, pacing, and tone of your edits, not just the caption copy.

What Success Looks Like:

  •  Full ownership of a brief's turnaround, from a quick shoot or raw footage to a polished, trend-aware edit that clients approve within one or two rounds.
  •  Short-form content that is on-brand, on-trend, and genuinely stops the scroll across Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
  •  Minimal hand-holding needed: footage libraries and project files organised well enough that teammates can pick up your work without a briefing session.
  •  Client feedback turned around reliably within agreed revision cycles.
  •  A steady feel for what's working on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, reflected in the trends and formats you bring into your edits.

Job Requirements

 Required

  • At least 1 year of experience in video editing/content creation. Internships, freelance work, campus/student media, or personal projects all count toward this.
  •  Proficient in CapCut for short-form editing, with good working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro as a bonus.
  •  Comfortable operating a camera and/or gimbal and setting up basic lighting/audio for basic social media shoots.
  •  A portfolio or reel showing short-form social content (personal or student projects are welcome).
  •  Fluent in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
  •  Comfortable using AI tools (e.g. Claude via Cowork, ChatGPT, AI-assisted edit features) to speed up scripting, research, and rough cuts, while keeping full creative judgement over the final edit.
  •  Strong grasp of the Malay demographic in Malaysia and its distinct segments, with the ability to reflect that in visual style and tone rather than treating it as a single audience.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with Adobe After Effects, or basic motion graphics/motion typography.
  • Photography or content-creation experience.
  • Genuinely curious and purpose-driven. You dig to understand the reasoning behind a campaign or initiative, not just the brief itself, and let that understanding shape the work.
  • An active digital native; you're on top of trends and can spot what's working (and what's not) across social platforms.
