Job Description

Location: Lumut , Perak , Malaysia

Reporting To: O&M engineer / Base Manager

Job Purpose:

The Wastewater Treatment Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). This role leads a team of operators to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation in accordance with environmental regulations, discharge standards, and company requirements.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Operations & Process Control

- Supervise daily operation of the wastewater treatment plant, including physical, chemical, and Scheduled waste handling processes.

- Ensure all treatment units operate within design parameters and regulatory limits.

- Monitor key process parameters such as pH, flow rate, COD, BOD, ammonia, TSS at incoming and final discharge

- Adjust operational settings and chemical dosing to maintain treatment performance.

- Identify and respond to process upsets or abnormal operating conditions.

  • Team Leadership & Supervision

- Lead and supervise wastewater treatment operators on a daily basis.

- Assign tasks, manage work schedules, and ensure adequate manpower coverage.

- Provide training, guidance, and coaching to operators on SOPs, safety practices, and plant operations.

- Ensure proper shift handover and accurate recording of operational logs.

- Enforce discipline, work standards, and good housekeeping practices.

  • Compliance & Environmental Control

- Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations, discharge standards, and license conditions.

- Review daily, weekly, and monthly operational and monitoring records.

- Support regulatory inspections, audits, and sampling activities.

- Report non-compliance, incidents, or environmental risks promptly to management.

  • Maintenance Coordination

- Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

- Monitor equipment performance and identify issues affecting plant reliability.

- Ensure critical spare parts and treatment chemicals are adequately stocked.

- Assist in troubleshooting equipment or system failures.

  • Health, Safety & Housekeeping

- Enforce safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe work procedures.

- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.

- Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals.

- Maintain good housekeeping to prevent spills, odors, and workplace hazards.

  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement

- Prepare operational reports, chemical usage records, sludge disposal data, and compliance summaries.

- Analyze plant performance trends and recommend improvement or optimization measures.

- Support initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, and enhance environmental performance.

  • Qualifications & Experience:

- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in wastewater treatment operations.

- Supervisory or team leadership experience is an advantage.

- Good knowledge of biological wastewater treatment processes.
