At SMX, the Creative Director is the visionary force behind everything we make — from GWP campaigns and packaging experiences to immersive brand worlds and multi-channel storytelling. This role leads the creative department, ensuring we remain innovative, strategic, and culturally relevant while delivering commercial impact for our clients.
You will be responsible for setting the creative vision, leading ideation across disciplines, and elevating the overall creative standard of the agency. You’ll work closely with clients, leadership, and delivery teams to translate brand ambition into disruptive, memorable creative work that wins hearts, minds, and market share.
- Define and uphold the creative vision and direction of SMX’s offerings.
- Set high design standards across product, packaging, campaign, and experiential outputs.
- Champion new technologies, storytelling formats, and creative innovation.
- Ensure all work is brand-aligned, trend-relevant, and strategically grounded.
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing creative department (graphic, product, technical, motion).
- Oversee talent development, recruitment, performance reviews, and succession planning.
- Foster a strong creative culture — curious, collaborative, and craft-focused.
- Shape internal workflows, escalation processes, and creative quality assurance systems.
- Engage with senior clients to understand brand challenges and co-create bold creative solutions.
- Present and defend ideas clearly and persuasively, translating vision into business outcomes.
- Contribute to new business pitches and creative strategy development.
- Align creative goals with commercial KPIs, cost realities, and production feasibility.
- Partner closely with Strategy, Accounts, Sourcing, and Production teams to ensure integrated execution.
- Drive early-stage prototyping, trend research, and creative testing initiatives.
- Serve as the creative authority in cross-functional leadership meetings.
- Visionary thinker with a strong sense of narrative, aesthetics, and cultural trends.
- Deep expertise across branding, product design, packaging, and marketing campaign ideation.
- Exceptional leadership, team-building, and mentorship abilities.
- Confident presenter with strong client-handling and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Highly organized, agile, and decisive under pressure.
- Up-to-date with global creative, tech, sustainability, and consumer behavior trends.
- 10+ years of experience in creative agencies or brand environments, with a minimum of 4–5 years in a senior creative leadership role.
- Proven track record of award-winning or business-shifting work across multiple categories.
- Experience managing large creative teams, budgets, and cross-border or regional projects.
- Strong portfolio of creative direction in GWP, FMCG, packaging, or experiential spaces.
- Degree in Design, Creative Communications, or related field. Additional business or leadership education is a plus.
Paid medical expenses up to RM600 per year.
Maximum of sixty (60) working days in the aggregate in each calendar year inclusive of non- hospitalization sick leave.
You will be entitled to 12 days of annual leave per year of continuous service on a pro-rated basis. This is in addition to statutory public holidays.
