JOB DESCRIPTION

A leader of a curriculum area is an informed, reflective practitioner who uses inquiry-based teaching strategies to create positive learning environments and teams that motivate and challenge all learners to become self-regulated, life-long learners and leaders. A curriculum leader will teach their subjects or disciplines as required.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the expectations specified in the Subject Teacher Job Description, a curriculum leader ensures effective pedagogy across the area. They:

• Develop and maintain a collegial and supportive culture in the curriculum area that encourages innovation
• Be accountable for teaching and learning standards and learner outcomes ensuring learners make academic progress that can be evidenced
• Contribute to the development of whole school strategic planning and lead the vision for the curriculum area
• Develop, curate and communicate the written, taught and assessed curriculum and ensure these comply with awarding bodies practices
• Maintain accurate registers across the tiers of provision and communicate changes effectively
• Ensure learners and families receive timely and meaningful feedback and track progress effectively
• Liaise effectively with admissions and finance around EAL contracts
• Lead the development of subject area goals and individual goals through the Teacher Professional Enhancement process (TPE)
• Effectively manage delegated budgets and assets and plan to meet curriculum resource needs
• Engage in new staff appointments and recommend appropriate staffing for each course as part of the timetable process
• Support and evaluate quality of teaching in the subject and address professional learning needs
• Use restorative practice to ensure good classroom behaviour
• Establish effective working relationships with colleagues and parents
• Empower children to be reflective and independent learners.
• Participate in all aspects of school life and support holistic education.
• To perform any other duties as assigned by the management, stakeholders and reporting manager

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• A relevant degree plus teaching qualification (or equivalent)
• Higher degree or recognised professional qualification (preferred)
• Coaching accreditation (preferred)
• Evidence of continued relevant professional development
• Experience in teaching learners with diverse needs
• Experience in an international school environment (preferred)
• Relevant curriculum experience
