Role purpose

This role is the backbone of our store operations. You keep the shop organised, help customers make confident choices, and make sure daily routines run smoothly so the team can focus on customers.

Your Growth & Impact

• Grow product knowledge in outdoor gear and expand your network with suppliers and regular customers.
• Build operational skills like inventory control and point of sale management that are transferable across retail roles.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities

Customer Experience

• Greet customers warmly and assess their needs to recommend suitable products in a friendly, patient manner.
• Assist with product trials and basic demonstrations so customers feel confident with their purchases.
• Handle returns and exchanges professionally, following store policy and keeping records accurate.

Store Operations

• Operate the point of sale system, process payments, and perform accurate cash handling at shift end.
• Receive deliveries, check stock against invoices, and update inventory records daily.
• Keep the sales floor tidy, restock shelves, and prepare displays for seasonal promotions.

Sales & Merchandising

• Meet basic sales targets by engaging shoppers and advising on complementary items to increase basket size.
• Set up merchandising displays that highlight key products and promotions according to planograms.
• Report low stock, product feedback, and customer trends to the store lead to help improve assortment.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of retail experience, preferably in outdoor, sports, or general merchandise stores.
• Completed secondary education or equivalent vocational training in retail or customer service.
• Experience handling cash and operating a POS system in a busy retail environment.

Hard Skills & Knowledge

• Patient Assistance, with proven experience supporting customers through selection and fitting.
• Retail Sales and Retail Operations knowledge, including stock receiving and basic merchandising.
• Retail Experience with familiarity in inventory management and everyday store routines.
• Competent with electronic point of sale systems and basic spreadsheet or stock software for simple reporting.

Soft Skills & Qualities

• Strong communication and active listening so you can understand customer needs quickly.
• Detail oriented and reliable, with the ability to follow store procedures and complete shift tasks accurately.
• Friendly and patient attitude, comfortable working as part of a small team and helping out across store functions.
• Willingness to learn product details and take feedback to improve sales and service performance.
