We are looking for a passionate Business Controller who will be responsible to support Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel Ship Management (WASM) in reaching its vision by successfully delivering financial analysis. The main purpose of this position is to provide the value added support to key business decisions via financial information and conduct detailed analysis of the financial implications of such decisions as well as to support the finance function and activities in promoting, understanding and compliance to internal controls through effective maintenance of the required financial data and information.

This person will be working with Wilhelmsen Ship Management, a comprehensive global maritime group providing over half of the merchant fleet with essential products and services, along with supplying crew and technical management to the largest and most complex vessels ever to sail.

With a pool of more than 9,200 seafarers and over 500 shore-based employees all over the world, Wilhelmsen Ship Management is one of world’s largest third-party ship managers with a portfolio of more than 450 vessels and counting. Meanwhile, Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel Ship Management itself is a technical ship manager based in Hamburg, Germany, and in Rhoon, the Netherlands. We focus on container ships.

The position will be located at our shared service office in Kuala Lumpur Sentral in the heart of Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and it is easy to get to by public transportation.

Main job responsibilities:

  • Provide timely, relevant and accurate reporting and analysis of the results of the WASM’s financial performance against historical, budgeted, forecasted and strategic planning results to facilitate decision-making toward the achievement of the budget and strategic plan.

  • Maintain and develop various financial models using BI tools (Tableau, Power BI etc.) to ensure quality, accuracy and focused analytic review.

  • Support in finance process improvement, internal controls and risk management i.e. to share best practices and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance team.

  • Support business in pursuit financial targets through in-depth analysis and sharing of financial knowledge.

  • Provide deep finance subject matter expertise and knowledge to the project team, for specific finance area/process, identify risks, and to enable the successful assessment or implementation of ERP solution.

  • Perform ad-hoc queries and supports from various counterparts when needed.

  •  Assisting the Management of Finance of this organisation in other designated or non-routine tasks.


Accountabilities 

  • Financial analysis of WASM as delegated, including the processes and procedures involved for the improvement as delegated.

Qualifications

  • Possessed a bachelor’s degree in business administration/Finance/Economics.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in related field.

  • Preferably someone from Multinational Companies / Shared Service backgrounds.

  • A team player with the capability to work independently when needed. Good written and spoken English is a must.

Additional preferences

  • Proficient in MS office applications especially MS Excel

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Possess good business acumen.

  • Proficiency with financial software packages (SAP),  MS office and BI tools (Tableau and/or Power BI) will be a good advantage.

  • Nationality: Malaysian
