Job Description

Job Summary

A cashier is responsible for processing customer purchases, handling cash and electronic payments, issuing receipts, and providing friendly customer service while maintaining accurate transaction records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers politely and assist with purchases 
  • Scan items and process payments (cash, debit/credit cards, e-wallets) 
  • Issue receipts, refunds, and change accurately 
  • Operate the cash register or POS (Point of Sale) system 
  • Balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts 
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally 
  • Maintain cleanliness of cashier counter area 
  • Promote loyalty programs or ongoing promotions if required 
  • Restock small items near checkout counters when needed 

Requirements

  • Minimum SPM qualification (common in Malaysia) 
  • Basic math and computer skills 
  • Good communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia and/or English 
  • Honest, responsible, and customer-friendly 
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays 
  • Previous cashier or retail experience is an advantage but often not required
