Job Description

Job Summary

The Manual Packaging Line Supervisor will be responsible for setting up and commissioning a new manual packaging line, optimizing and balancing throughput to meet target output, and leading a team of packaging staff. The role includes developing workflow, staffing plans, implementing SOPs, ensuring product quality and safety, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to align production, quality, and timelines with regulatory and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Line Setup & Commissioning
    Plan and oversee the physical setup of the manual packaging line, including layout, equipment selection, tooling, and workstation ergonomics to maximize efficiency and safety.
  • Line Optimization & Balancing
    Analyze workflow and line capacity, balance tasks across operators, and implement changes to achieve target output and smooth line operation.
  • SOPs & Work Instructions
    Develop, document, and implement standard operating procedures, work instructions, and quality checklists for all packaging operations.
  • Staffing & Training
    Recruit or allocate staff for the line, define roles, create training plans, and deliver on-the-job training to ensure competency in packaging processes, safety and quality requirements.
  • Production Planning & Scheduling
    Prepare daily/weekly packaging plans in coordination with Demand & Supply Planners and Warehouse teams to meet order schedules and inventory requirements.
  • Quality Control
    Ensure correct labeling, kitting, packaging quality and compliance with product specifications; perform regular inspections and corrective actions as needed.
  • Process Improvement
    Identify inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement initiatives (5S/Lean) to increase throughput, reduce waste, and lower costs.
  • Health & Safety
    Enforce workplace safety standards and PPE use, conduct toolbox talks, and ensure compliance with local regulations and company policies.
  • Materials & Equipment Liaison
    Coordinate with procurement/warehouse for timely supply of packaging materials, consumables, tooling, and minor equipment maintenance.
  • Kitting & Repackaging Operations
    Oversee repackaging and kitting activities, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • KPI Monitoring & Reporting
    Track and report key performance indicators (throughput, yield, error rates, labor efficiency) and provide regular updates to management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    Work closely with Warehouse, Shipping, Quality Assurance, and Distribution Planning to ensure alignment across processes.
  • Problem Solving
    Lead root-cause analysis of packaging defects, delays or other production issues and implement corrective/preventive measures.


Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience supervising a manual assembly processes / packaging or similar operations in a manufacturing, or logistics environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial engineering methods to improve manual assembly processes.
  • Good understanding of inventory flow, materials management, and basic production planning.
  • Experience with Lean/5S or continuous improvement methodologies is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team of blue collar workers.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to train and motivate line operators.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with SAP ERP/ EWM systems (e.g., SAP) is a plus.
  • Fluent in English and Malay. Chinese language skills would be beneficial.
