Job Description

Job Summary

The Laboratory Engineer will bridge the gap between product development and customer application. You will oversee the daily operations of the application laboratory, and work with team to execute precise chemical analyses and performance tests. Beyond the lab, you will act as a technical consultant, traveling to customer sites to optimize product performance and resolve complex application challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Management & Lab Leadership
  • Workflow Optimization: Plan and assign testing schedules to lab technicians, ensuring projects are completed on time and within specification.
  • Data Strategy: Oversee the collection and analysis of performance data for in-house chemicals (solder paste, flux, cleaning agents, and cooling fluids) to build technical datasets for the sales team.
  • Quality & Standards: Ensure all laboratory activities comply with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001) and internal quality control protocols.
  • Training & Mentorship: Provide advanced technical training to lab technicians, fostering their professional growth and improving lab accuracy.

2. Product Application & Technical Support

  • On-Site Technical Service: Travel to customer facilities to provide hands-on support for product integration, troubleshooting on product application including soldering, cleaning coating and cooling.
  • Customer Advocacy: Act as the technical voice of the customer within the company, translating client feedback into actionable R&D or product improvement projects.
  • Application Testing: Design and execute specialized tests—such as printability, reflow profiling for solder paste, and cleaning process optimization, tailored to specific customer requirements.

3. Laboratory Operations

  • Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of advanced analytical instruments (e.g., weighing balance, SEM, GC, or FTIR).
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce strict EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) protocols and ensure the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.

Requirements

  • Travel: Willingness to travel to visit domestic or international customer sites for technical support.
  • License: Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical: Ability to work in a laboratory environment, which may include exposure to chemical vapors and handling specialized equipment.
  • Languages: Ability to speak and read – Chinese, English & Malay 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in a chemical laboratory environment, preferably within the electronics or chemical manufacturing sectors.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of SMT (Surface Mount Technology) processes and soldering chemistry (solder paste and flux).
    • Familiarity with dielectric fluid properties and their applications in thermal management/cooling.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage small teams or lead complex technical projects.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
