Build and Run the Systems Behind an Award-Winning Financial Education Brand

At Piranha Profits, our online courses, tools and investing research web app are used by over 40,000 students across 160 countries. As we grow, so does the technology that supports them.

We’re looking for a Full Stack Developer to help build, run and improve these systems. Our applications are built on the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js and Node.js). You’ll work across frontend, backend, databases and third-party integrations: building new features, improving existing systems, and keeping everything reliable.

We’re looking for someone with solid development fundamentals who enjoys getting to the root of a problem, takes initiative and keeps learning. You’ll use AI tools to work faster, while thinking critically about every solution you ship.

You’re not expected to know everything. What matters is that you take ownership, do the research, think critically and work your way to a solution. The code you write goes into production and is used by real students every day.

Job Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Develop, enhance and maintain frontend and backend applications, including RESTful APIs and services
• Handle database work, including data modelling and schema design, querying, data analysis, troubleshooting, data updates and migrations
• Integrate our applications with third-party APIs and services
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve application and production issues
• Write clean, maintainable, reusable and well-structured code
• Test your work and think through edge cases before deployment
• Take part in code reviews and help improve code quality and development practices
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Assist with deployment, monitoring, maintenance and ongoing system improvements
• Keep technical documentation up to date where required
• Spot potential issues, technical risks and inefficiencies early, and suggest improvements
• Support existing and new projects, systems, integrations and other technical initiatives when required
• Undertake reasonable ad hoc tasks, assignments or projects relevant to your role

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field (preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant software development experience
• Candidates without a related degree are welcome to apply if they have strong practical experience in full stack web development using the MERN stack or similar technologies

Technical Skills

You should have a good understanding of, and practical experience in:

• HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Node.js and Express.js
• React.js
• MongoDB
• RESTful APIs
• Git and version control workflows
• Debugging and troubleshooting
• Basic software architecture
• Basic security practices

We welcome AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, research, documentation, brainstorming and improving productivity.

We see AI as a tool that supports your work. Your own technical knowledge, critical thinking and judgment remain essential.

You’re expected to:

• Review and validate AI-generated code and recommendations before implementing them
• Spot incorrect assumptions, logical flaws, edge cases, security concerns, performance issues and maintainability problems
• Understand why the code works, rather than copying and pasting generated solutions
• Compare different approaches and choose the one that fits the actual system and requirements
• Verify that an AI-generated answer is correct before relying on it
• Recognise when a solution is overcomplicated or unsuitable for the existing codebase
• Investigate and debug independently when an AI-generated solution doesn’t work
• Take full responsibility for the code and solutions you implement
