IOI Boulevard, Puchong, Selangor

Job Description

Product & UI/UX Designer

Sigmaschool is building a new kind of coding school for the AI era.

We help beginners become job-ready software developers through hands-on projects, strong fundamentals, AI-assisted workflows, and real-world practice.

Now, we are building Sigmo, our AI-powered and gamified learning platform.

Sigmo is designed to make learning software development more practical, engaging, personalised, and outcome-driven. Instead of students passively watching videos, we want them to complete missions, build projects, get feedback, track progress, use AI properly, and grow into confident software builders.

We are looking for a Product & UI/UX Designer to help us design this future.

This is not just a “make things look nice” role.

You will help shape the product experience, student journey, learning flows, dashboards, gamification systems, and user interface of a real AI-native education platform.

Why This Role Exists

Most online learning platforms are boring. Students watch videos, complete quizzes, lose motivation, and struggle to turn knowledge into real skill. We believe learning software development should feel more like:

  • Completing missions
  • Building real projects
  • Getting feedback quickly
  • Seeing your progress clearly
  • Knowing exactly what to do next
  • Using AI as a learning assistant
  • Creating proof of work that helps you get hired

That is what Sigmo is being built for. We need a designer who can turn complex learning problems into simple, beautiful, usable product experiences.

What You’ll Work On

1. Design Sigmo, Our AI-Powered Learning Platform

You will help design the core experience of Sigmo.

This may include:

  • Student dashboards
  • Learning paths
  • Mission pages
  • Lesson flows
  • Coding challenge screens
  • Progress tracking
  • Skill assessment flows
  • AI tutor / AI coding buddy interfaces
  • Gamification systems
  • Streaks, badges, levels, XP, and milestones
  • Student portfolio pages
  • Instructor and mentor dashboards
  • Feedback and review workflows
  • Onboarding flows
  • Mobile-responsive learning experiences

Your work will directly affect how students learn, stay motivated, and complete the programme.

2. Turn Learning Problems Into Product Solutions

You will work closely with the education, product, and engineering teams to understand where students get stuck.

Then, you will help design better solutions.

For example:

  • Students do not know what to do next → design clearer next-step flows
  • Students lose motivation → design better progress and reward systems
  • Students blindly copy AI-generated code → design reflection and explanation checkpoints
  • Mentors struggle to track student progress → design better mentor dashboards
  • Students submit messy projects → design better submission and feedback flows

This role requires both design taste and product thinking.

3. Design High-Converting Marketing and Student-Facing Pages

You may also help improve our public-facing and conversion-focused pages, such as:

  • Homepage
  • Bootcamp landing pages
  • Masterclass registration pages
  • Application flow
  • Student onboarding pages
  • Lead magnet pages
  • Product feature pages

The goal is not just to make pages beautiful.

The goal is to build trust, improve clarity, and increase conversion.

4. Create Wireframes, Prototypes, and Design Systems

You will be expected to produce practical design work, including:

  • User flows
  • Wireframes
  • High-fidelity UI designs
  • Clickable prototypes
  • Design systems
  • Component libraries
  • Responsive layouts
  • Product specs for developers
  • UI improvements based on feedback and data

You should be comfortable designing in Figma and communicating your ideas clearly.

5. Work Closely With Engineers to Ship

This is a product-building role, not a design-only role.

You will work with developers to make sure designs can actually be shipped.

You should be able to:

  • Explain design decisions clearly
  • Prepare developer-friendly handoff
  • Think in components and states
  • Understand basic frontend constraints
  • Review implemented designs
  • Give practical feedback
  • Iterate quickly when something does not work

Bonus if you understand HTML, CSS, Tailwind, React, or Next.js basics.

Who We’re Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you are:

  • A Product Designer
  • A UI/UX Designer
  • A UX Designer with strong visual design skills
  • A UI Designer who wants to grow into product design
  • A self-taught designer with strong product taste
  • A designer interested in education, AI, gamification, and learning products

We are not looking for someone who only follows instructions.

We are looking for someone who can think, challenge assumptions, and improve the product.

What Makes Someone Great in This Role

The best person for this role is not just a visual designer.

The best person understands that design should change user behaviour.

We value someone who:

  • Has strong product taste
  • Can make complex things feel simple
  • Thinks deeply about the user journey
  • Cares about business outcomes
  • Cares about student outcomes
  • Designs for clarity, not decoration
  • Can move fast without being messy
  • Can accept feedback without being defensive
  • Can challenge bad ideas respectfully
  • Can work independently
  • Can turn vague problems into clear designs
  • Understands that good design must eventually ship

What You’ll Get

1. Design a Real Product From Early Stage

You will help shape Sigmo from an early stage.

This means your work will not be limited to small UI tweaks.

You will influence the core product experience, learning journey, gamification system, and student interface.

2. Work on AI, Education, and Product

This role sits at the intersection of:

  • AI
  • Software education
  • Product design
  • Gamification
  • Career transformation

You will be designing for a meaningful problem: helping people learn the skills to change their careers.

3. Build a Strong Product Portfolio

You will get to work on real product problems, not fake case studies.

Your work may include:

  • AI learning flows
  • Student dashboards
  • Gamified learning systems
  • Mentor tools
  • Conversion funnels
  • Onboarding flows
  • Learning analytics
  • Portfolio-building experiences

This is valuable portfolio work for any designer who wants to grow into senior product design roles.

4. Grow Into Bigger Roles

For the right person, this role can grow into:

  • Senior Product Designer
  • Product Lead
  • Head of Design
  • Learning Experience Designer
  • Growth Designer
  • Product Manager
  • AI Education Product Lead

We are a small growing team, so strong people can take more ownership quickly.

Our Culture

We are a small, fast-moving team building in education, AI, and software.

We care about:

  • Ownership
  • Reliability
  • High standards
  • Clear communication
  • Proactiveness
  • Practical outcomes
  • Student success
  • Shipping useful things

This role is not for someone who wants to only make pretty screens.

You will need to understand users, think through product logic, design flows, work with engineers, improve based on feedback, and care about whether the product actually works.

Working Arrangement

  • Role: Product & UI/UX Designer
  • Type: Full-time
  • Location: Malaysia / Hybrid / In-person, depending on arrangement
  • Working days: Monday to Friday
  • Compensation: To be discussed based on experience and fit

  • Design an AI-powered learning platform
  • Work on a product that helps people change careers

  • Design real product flows, not just marketing graphics
  • Work closely with engineers and educators
  • Grow as a product designer in a fast-moving company
  • Help shape how software development is taught in the AI era

You Should Not Apply If

This role is probably not for you if:

  • You only want to design social media graphics
  • You only care about visuals, not user behaviour
  • You dislike feedback and iteration
  • You need very detailed instructions for every task
  • You do not like working with developers
  • You do not care whether your designs improve outcomes
  • You prefer slow corporate environments
  • You are uncomfortable with ambiguity

We started Sigma School because we believe that the current education system is broken. Students are struggling to get jobs and struggling to pay back their student loans, yet employers are still struggling to hire good talents. There is a massive, growing tech talent-skill mismatch in the world right now and almost ALL educators are not held accountable to help their students secure jobs. They simply have no...
