Digital designs can be seen everywhere. But who are the talented beings behind these captivating visuals that we see? Creative designers, of course!
Learn all about a Creative Designer's career path and how you can start as one.
Creative Designers put ideas into action by creating eye-pleasing and easy to understand visuals.
They are usually part of the marketing and advertising team. Some also work as freelancers.
Their work involves creating blueprint for design projects and completing designs using digital illustration software. Creative Designers communicate and work alongside other designers, writers, marketers, advertisers, as well as vendors on projects.
Because of this, becoming a Creative Designer requires a combination of graphic design and multimedia skills.
There are 3 primary areas you can pursue as a Creative Designer in Malaysia:
As a commercial designer, you'll create graphics for businesses that need labels, trademarks, advertising campaigns, and packaging materials. This role involves working closely with marketing teams to develop visually compelling designs that enhance brand identity and attract customers.
In this area, you'll focus on creating designs for websites and mobile applications that are user-friendly and visually appealing (also known as user experience design). This involves collaborating with developers to ensure that the design elements align with the technical requirements and enhance the user experience.
Publishing designers create designs for books, magazines, or other publications. You’ll work closely with writers and editors to produce eye-catching covers and layouts that attract your target audience. This role requires a keen eye for typography and layout design.
When you start a career as a Creative Designer in Malaysia, you will typically start as a Junior Creative Designer. From there, you can advance to a Senior Executive role. With more experience and expertise down the road, you can progress to an Art Director and eventually to a Creative Director.
If working in a company isn’t for you, you can choose to freelance. Many Creative Designers in Malaysia opt for freelancing after gaining a few years of experience for its flexibility and the ability to manage their own projects. Freelancing can be an attractive option if you have the funds to support yourself through the initial months.
