Job Description
Join Gathercare's engineering team as a trainee responsible for managing our backend API (Laravel / PHP). You will observe the daily operations of the service, which serves as the primary resource for carer registration, payments, claims, crowdshare settlements, and third-party integrations (Fiuu, Atome, IHP, Brevo, SAF Gateway). Throughout the internship, you will progress from reviewing pull requests and creating integration documentation to making your own decisions on scoping: determining what constitutes a schema change, what should be included in a service versus a controller, and when a payment flow requires its own pairing. By the end of the internship, you will take ownership of backend product decisions for a Malaysia-focused healthcare and insurance platform serving thousands of users.
Job Requirements
- Final-year undergraduate or recent graduate in Computer Science / Software Engineering / Information Systems (or equivalent self-taught track record).
- Comfortable reading and writing PHP, SQL, and JSON — you don't need to be fluent in Laravel yet, but you should have shipped something with a framework.
- Able to commit 4-6 months full-time.
- Based in or able to travel to Klang Valley.
- Strong written English + at least one of Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin (our carers span all three).
- Comfortable with ambiguity - we run real production traffic with no staging environment between you and the server.
