Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join a growing engineering team building a digital platform that connects students with universities locally and internationally. The platform helps students discover courses, apply to universities, and manage their education journey through a seamless digital experience.

In this role, you will work closely with the CTO and engineering team to design scalable backend systems and core platform architecture. You will also play an important role in establishing backend engineering standards while mentoring junior developers within the team.

Backend Development

• Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL
• Implement robust business logic to support the platform’s core functionalities
• Develop and maintain secure, high-performance backend systems

System Architecture

• Define backend architecture and API standards for the platform
• Design and optimize database schemas and queries to ensure performance and data integrity
• Support the implementation of scalable and reliable backend infrastructure

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

• Work closely with the CTO, frontend developers, and product team to implement new features
• Participate in architectural discussions and technical planning
• Ensure alignment between backend systems and product requirements

Code Quality & Engineering Standards

• Conduct code reviews and maintain backend development best practices
• Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability
• Contribute to continuous improvements in development workflows

Mentorship & Team Development

• Provide technical guidance to junior developers
• Share knowledge and best practices within the engineering team
• Support the team in solving complex technical challenges

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Minimum 5 years experience in backend development
• At least 3 years experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL database design and optimization
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and API documentation
• Experience implementing authentication and authorization (OAuth2, JWT, RBAC)
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience working with API gateway solutions and backend security best practices
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
• Strong communication skills in English and ability to present ideas to the team
• Experience mentoring or guiding junior developers
