Job Description

About us
Optimist Creative Studio builds mobile apps and custom jingles for Malaysian businesses. We're small and fast-moving, which means interns here don't fetch coffee or sit on filler tasks. You work on things that go out to real clients and real users.

What you'll do

Graphic Design

  • Design social media content, flyers and marketing material for our own campaigns and client work
  • Produce visual assets for app listings, YouTube content and product promos
  • Help shape brand identity across our projects

UI/UX Design

  • Design screens and user flows for mobile apps built in Flutter
  • Turn rough product ideas into wireframes and clickable prototypes
  • Work with the developer directly on how the app should feel to use

Business Development

  • Reach out to potential clients through social media, email and calls
  • Follow up on leads and support the sales pipeline from first contact to closed deal
  • Help build sales material and pitch decks
  • Support our commission-based agent network

What we're looking for

  • Currently studying or recently completed a diploma or degree in a related field
  • Comfortable with the tools of your track (Figma, Canva, Adobe, or equivalent for design roles)
  • Can communicate in English and Bahasa Melayu
  • Self-directed. You'll be given the goal, not micromanaged through it
  • Reliable internet and your own laptop

What you get

  • RM600 monthly allowance
  • Real portfolio pieces you can show, not mock projects
  • Direct exposure to how a small studio actually runs, from idea to client payment
  • Reference letter and completion certificate

Job Requirements

Who this is for
Students or fresh graduates in Graphic Design, Multimedia, UI/UX, Business, Marketing or a related field. Final-year and gap-year students welcome. We care more about what you can show us than what your transcript says.

Must have

  • Portfolio or work samples for design tracks. Coursework, personal projects and passion projects all count
  • Working knowledge of Figma, Canva, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, or an equivalent (design tracks)
  • Written and spoken English and Bahasa Melayu
  • Own laptop and stable internet
  • Able to commit at least 3 months, minimum 3 days a week

Nice to have

  • Basic understanding of mobile app design patterns (Material Design, iOS HIG)
  • Experience running social media accounts or content for a business, club or personal brand
  • Video editing or motion graphics (CapCut, Premiere, After Effects)
  • Any sales, retail or customer-facing experience for the Business Development track
  • Interest in the Malaysian SME and startup scene

Soft skills that actually matter here

  • You ask questions instead of guessing and delivering the wrong thing
  • You can take direct feedback on your work without taking it personally
  • You update people before they have to chase you
  • You finish what you start

We're a small team, so you'll get real responsibility early. That only works if you're honest about what you don't know yet.

  • Candidates with an existing right to work in the country are preferred
    • Local citizens of this country
    • Permanent residents (PR) of this country
