Job Description

JOB SUMMARY 

The Head of Finance will lead and oversee all financial operations and strategic financial initiatives of the organization. This role will manage a team responsible for financial reporting and compliance, budgeting and forecasting, treasury management, internal audit, ERP systems, as well as corporate finance activities including fundraising, investor relations and strategic planning.  

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Roles and responsibilities may include a variety of duties including, but not limited to: 

Financial Operations 

  • Lead and oversee day-to-day financial operations of the organization. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements. 

Team Management and Development 

  • Manage and mentor a team of financial professionals, including Accounts Payables and Receivables, Financial Reporting and Compliance, Budgeting and Forecasting, ERP, Treasury Manager, Internal Audit and others as applicable. 
  • Foster a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance team.  
  • Develop and mentor finance team members to enhance their skills, knowledge, and effectiveness. 
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the finance department. 

Budgeting and Forecasting 

  • Direct the budgeting and forecasting processes to support operational planning and strategic initiatives. 
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to senior management for decision-making purposes. 

Treasury and Cash Management 

  • Oversee treasury functions, including cash management, banking relationships, investment strategies, debt management, and risk management. 
  • Ensure optimal utilization of cash resources and liquidity planning.   

Financial Compliance and Audit 

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies. 
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, including managing relationships with auditors and regulatory authorities. 

ERP System Management 

  • Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the ERP system to support efficient financial operations and reporting.  

Corporate Finance 

  • Lead fundraising efforts, including equity and debt financing, to support the organization’s strategic objectives. 
  • Manage relationships with investors, banks, and financial institutions.  
  • Develop and execute strategic financial plans, including mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate finance initiatives. 

Strategic Planning and Analysis 

  • Lead strategic financial planning initiatives and provide analysis of financial performance against key business metrics.  
  • Conduct market research and analysis to support growth and expansion strategies.  

Job Requirements

 REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance/Accounting/Economics/Business/CPA or related field; 
  • Proven at least 15 years of work experience in a senior financial management role; 
  • Prior work experience in retail industry will be an added advantage; 
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and treasury management; 
  • Strong negotiation skills with a good understanding of current market practice; 
  • Experience with ERP systems implementation and management; 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams; 
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization; 
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving financial performance and achieving organizational goals; 
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English; 
  • Good presentation and writing skills
