Job Description

Gary Chong Studios is looking for an experienced Videographer / Video Editor who is equally confident behind the camera and in the edit suite.

This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong eye for cinematography, lighting, composition and visual storytelling, while also having the editorial skills to shape footage into polished, engaging stories.

You will work across a diverse range of productions including corporate films, commercials, brand and campaign videos, testimonials, festive films, event content and digital/social content.

We are looking for someone who understands that great visuals go beyond simply operating a camera. You should be able to understand the creative intention behind a project, translate it into thoughtful lighting and camera decisions on set, and carry that same storytelling mindset through post-production.

Depending on the scale of the production, you may operate as the Director of Photography (DOP), Videographer or Camera Operator, working closely with the Creative Director, Producer and wider production team.

Key Responsibilities

Cinematography & Production

  • Serve as Director of Photography (DOP), Videographer or Camera Operator depending on the requirements and complexity of each production.
  • Translate creative treatments, scripts and storyboards into appropriate visual and cinematographic approaches.
  • Plan and execute camera setups, shot composition, camera movement and lighting to achieve the intended creative direction.
  • Possess a strong understanding of exposure, frame rates, shutter speed/angle, ISO, white balance, codecs, picture profiles and other essential camera settings.
  • Set up and operate professional cameras, lenses, lighting, audio and supporting production equipment.
  • Work closely with directors and creative leads to determine the visual language and technical requirements of each shoot.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges efficiently on set and propose practical solutions when issues arise.
  • Ensure footage is technically sound, properly exposed, focused and captured according to production requirements.
  • Support other production requirements where necessary.

Video Editing & Post-Production

  • Edit videos from offline edit through to final delivery, depending on project requirements.
  • Build strong story structures from raw footage, interviews, scripts and creative briefs.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of storytelling, pacing, rhythm, emotional beats and music selection.
  • Perform basic colour correction/grading, audio balancing, subtitles, graphics and other post-production requirements.
  • Work closely with Creative Directors and Producers to interpret feedback and translate it effectively into revisions.
  • Maintain organised project files, footage, assets and project archives.
  • Deliver edits according to agreed production timelines while maintaining quality standards.
  • Adapt content into different formats and aspect ratios where required.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in videography, cinematography and video editing. Candidates with stronger portfolios and relevant experience will be prioritised.
  • Strong portfolio/showreel demonstrating both cinematography and video editing capabilities.
  • Proven experience working as a DOP, Videographer or Camera Operator on professional productions.
  • Strong technical knowledge of professional camera systems, lenses, lighting and production equipment.
  • Strong understanding of lighting techniques for interviews, corporate productions, commercials and narrative/branded content.
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent professional editing software.
  • Knowledge of DaVinci Resolve, After Effects or other post-production software is an advantage.
  • Strong visual sense with good understanding of composition, lighting, colour and visual storytelling.
  • Able to independently assess a shooting environment and determine suitable camera, lens, lighting and technical setups.
  • Able to edit independently and transform raw footage into a coherent and engaging story.
  • Comfortable working across different types of productions — from controlled corporate interviews to larger commercial and branded shoots.
  • Able to work efficiently under production timelines and adapt when circumstances change on set.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining professional production standards.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented — able to identify problems, understand the root cause and propose practical solutions rather than simply escalating issues.
  • Open to feedback and able to continuously improve technical and creative skills.
  • Willing to work outside standard office hours when required for productions.

What We're Looking For

Beyond technical proficiency, we're looking for someone who takes ownership of their craft.

You should be someone who doesn't simply wait to be told which camera settings to use, where to place a light or which shots to capture. We value people who can assess the creative objective, think ahead, make informed technical decisions and contribute ideas that elevate the final output.

Similarly, in post-production, we're looking for an editor who thinks beyond assembling footage — someone who understands why a cut works, how pacing affects the audience and how visuals, sound and music come together to tell a compelling story.

Ultimately, we're looking for someone who can confidently take a project from camera to final cut while maintaining a consistently high standard of work.
