Job Description

  • Conduct deep-dive consultations with retail clients to diagnose challenges in sales structure, product assortment, gross margin, and inventory flow.
  • Use strong Category Management knowledge to coach and guide clients in developing actionable, data-driven retail strategies — not just planning, but ensuring measurable implementation.
  • Help clients build decision-making systems that improve assortment planning purchasing, merchandising, and supplier collaboration.
  • Translate complex retail data into clear, practical business actions using Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Deliver public training and coaching workshops, ensuring every participant can apply what they learn immediately.
  • Follow up closely with clients after training or consulting sessions to track progress, solve issues, and drive consistent business results.
  • Collaborate with MR’s consulting and training teams to enhance frameworks, tools, and consulting methodology based on real client outcomes.
  • Participate and work as crew in MR’s events, assisting in setup, coordination, and client engagement to ensure smooth execution and high-quality participant experience.

Job Requirements

Working Experience, Potential and Ability (工作经验, 潜力和能力)

  •  3–5 years of solid hands-on experience as a Category Manager in retail industries such as pharmacy, supermarket, hardware, or FMCG.
  • Proven record in managing product assortment, pricing strategy, promotion planning,and supplier negotiation with measurable business results.
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret sales, margin, and stock data — able to identify opportunities and make decisive recommendations.
  • Ready to transition from internal management to external consulting, using past experience to coach and guide retail owners toward structured and profitable growth.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills — confident in leading client discussions, diagnosing problems, and facilitating group workshops.
  • Reliable, proactive, and aggressive in achieving results for clients; demonstrates accountability and consistency in follow-up and delivery.
  • Capable of balancing consulting, training, and event support duties while maintaining professionalism and composure.
  • High potential to grow into Senior Retail Consultant, taking responsibility for strategic client portfolios and representing MR in public events.

Required Qualifications & Professional Knowledge (必备条件 & 专业知识)

  • Degree in Business, Retail, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in pharmacy, supermarket, FMCG, or specialty retail categories preferred.
  • Proficient in Excel or Google Sheets for retail data interpretation.
  • Strong knowledge in category management, inventory control, and supplier strategy.
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and public speaking skills — must be able to inspire and lead clients toward action.
  • Reliable, structured, and able to balance multiple client projects effectively.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience (优先考虑条件和经验)

  • Prior experience as a Retail Consultant or Trainer, working directly with SME retailers or multi-outlet retail chains.
  • Proven track record in coaching, consulting, and implementing retail business improvement programs, resulting in measurable sales, margin, or efficiency gains.
  • Holds a Certified Train-the-Trainer (TTT) certification — or is willing to pursue on after joining.
  • Skillful in data analysis and business interpretation using Excel, Google Sheets or any other analytical tools.
  • Confident bilingual communicator (Chinese & Bahasa Melayu) with strong influencing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
