Job Description
The position combines academic and industry-focused projects, where you will design, deploy, and optimize AI-driven solutions tailored to the needs of Taylor’s University and its expanding partnerships with industry stakeholders. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure AI enhances XR environments, WebAR applications, and other immersive technologies.
Key Responsibilities
AI and Machine Learning Integration
- Implement AI functionalities such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and text-to-image for XR and WebAR projects.
- Optimize AI models for real-time performance in immersive settings and educational tools.
- Integrate and deploy AI systems using frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Hugging Face.
XR Development and Adoption
- Collaborate with the Vortex XR Lab team to create AI-powered XR tools for teaching, learning, and simulations.
- Support XR adoption initiatives across the university, ensuring smooth implementation of AI-enhanced solutions in the lab and classrooms.
- Develop XR applications using platforms such as Unity and Unreal Engine, integrating AI-driven features for personalized and adaptive experiences.
Industry-Focused Projects
- Partner with industry stakeholders to design AI solutions for commercial applications, such as digital twins, intelligent simulations, and AR-based systems.
- Act as a bridge between academic and industry-driven projects, ensuring solutions meet real-world demands while fostering collaboration.
- Contribute to the commercialization of AI and XR technologies, positioning the Vortex XR Lab as a leader in innovation.
Backend Systems and Cloud Integration
- Develop and maintain backend systems and APIs for AI and XR applications, using Python, Node.js, or similar technologies.
- Deploy AI-powered solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) to ensure scalability and reliability.
- Utilize containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for efficient deployment and system management.
Research and Innovation
- Stay updated on advancements in AI and immersive technologies, identifying opportunities for innovative applications in XR environments.
- Prototype emerging AI technologies, such as generative AI and autonomous agents, for integration into the Vortex XR Lab’s offerings.
- Contribute to academic research, publications, and conferences, showcasing the lab’s expertise in AI and XR innovation.
Qualifications and Skills
Technical Skills
- Expertise in AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face) and XR development tools (Unity, Unreal Engine).
- Strong experience in backend development, API creation, and cloud-based deployments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Familiarity with WebAR platforms and emerging XR technologies (e.g., Meta Quest, HoloLens).
- Knowledge of data privacy, ethics, and compliance in AI applications.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- At least 3–5 years of experience in AI/ML integration, XR development, or backend system design.
- Proven ability to work on cross-functional teams and lead projects from ideation to deployment.

- Explain complex AI concepts in simple, clear language to diverse audiences like educators, developers, and business leaders.
