Our Origin Story
We officially opened our doors in September 2022. It wasn't a grand, corporate launch; it was a passion project among friends. The whole idea was born out of the pandemic, realizing how much the simple, authentic flavors meant to us. When we found a beautiful, old bungalow in the heart of the city, we knew it was the perfect spot. We wanted people to feel like they were coming home, escaping the city hustle for a genuine taste of tradition.

Our mission at our restaurant is simple: keep the heritage alive through food.

We make sure we use real "cili hidup" (fresh chilies) and hand-peel every bit of "kunyit" (turmeric) ourselves. You won't find any pre-packaged coconut milk here; only the real deal.</li>
<li>The Experience: We offer a laid-back, self-service lunch experience (like a school canteen!) where you can pick from over 30 different dishes we’ve cooked that morning.</li>
<li>Our Pride and Joy: People really love our signatures, like the tender Daging Salai Masak Lemak Cili Api (smoked beef in spicy coconut gravy) and our amazing Lamb Shank Masak Lemak.</li>
<li>The Vibe: We designed the place to feel welcoming—a mix of classic charm and modern comfort. We hope that when you dine with us, you feel that warm, nostalgic "balik kampung" (going home) feeling, right here in the middle of the city.</li>

Key Responsibilities
As a key member of our Kitchen Team, the Commis plays an important role in supporting daily kitchen operations and ensuring food is prepared efficiently, safely, and to Banglo 289’s standards. This position is ideal for individuals eager to learn, grow, and build a strong foundation in a professional kitchen environment.&nbsp;

<li>Kitchen Operations &amp; Support</li>
<ul>
<li>Assist senior chefs in daily food preparation, cooking, and plating for our self-service/canteen-style lunch service</li>
<li>Prepare ingredients (washing, chopping, slicing, portioning) according to recipes and prep lists</li>
<li>Ensure timely food preparation to support smooth service flow during peak hours</li>
</ul>
<li>Food Quality &amp; Safety</li>
<ul>
<li>Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times</li>
<li>Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and stock rotation (FIFO)</li>
<li>Maintain consistency and quality in food presentation and taste</li>
</ul>
<li>Kitchen Upkeep &amp; Cleanliness</li>
<ul>
<li>Keep workstations, kitchen equipment, and storage areas clean and organized</li>
<li>Assist with dishwashing and end-of-day kitchen cleaning duties</li>
<li>Ensure tools and equipment are handled and stored correctly</li>
</ul>
<li>Teamwork &amp; Communication</li>
<ul>
<li>Work closely with chefs and kitchen team members to ensure efficient operations</li>
<li>Communicate clearly with FOH staff to support smooth service and guest satisfaction</li>
<li>Take instructions positively and show willingness to learn from senior team members</li>
</ul>
<li>Problem Solving &amp; Initiative</li>
<ul>
<li>Identify and report equipment issues, stock shortages, or food quality concerns</li>
<li>Assist in minimizing food waste and maintaining kitchen efficiency</li>
