JOB PURPOSE

The incumbent will be part of a dynamic team providing technical and laboratory support for teaching and research in Taylor’s University’s. The incumbent is to carry out in the day-to-day running of laboratories and to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and is ready to use, and that the right materials are available for particular practical session.

KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES

• To ensure that practical is carried out smoothly, with the cooperation of lecturers.
• To ensure that the laboratory is well maintained, in a safe and hygienic manner.
• To ensure that all apparatus, equipment and consumables are stored in a systematic and safe manner, with periodic maintenance checks carried out.
• To keep a complete database of all equipment/ chemical/ reagent and inventory list
• To keep a record of all consumables and maintain a record of usage to ensure orders are put in at least two (2) months prior to need.
• Carry out necessary preparation of consumables and equipment and responsible for experiment set-up as required by the laboratory protocol in a timely manner prior to each practical session.
• To ensure that all paraphernalia used during the practical sessions are cleaned and stored in a systematic manner.
• To demonstrate to student proper laboratory techniques as well as best practices and be present during the entire laboratory session
• To carry out the preparation of consumables and equipment for the conduct of related workshops during college promotional events such as Open Day, Placement Day and whenever applicable.
• To assist in the setup of practical for examinations
• Basic knowledge and skill in performing calibration, basic maintenance & troubleshooting on general laboratory equipment.
• Ability to operate basic as well as high technology laboratory equipment such as Gas Chromatography (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Rheometer, RT- PCR, Flow cytometer, Zetasizer, Fluorimeter, etc.
• Resourceful, customer focused, self-motivated and result oriented.
• Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to you from time to time.
