This role designs and implements advanced coaching methodologies, integrates sports science principles, and ensures&nbsp;athletes are prepared physically, mentally, and strategically for peak performance. By&nbsp;fostering strong relationships with government agencies, national sports bodies, and industry partners, the Coaching Specialist positions Taylor’s as a recognised leader in both&nbsp;national and international sporting arenas. Beyond competitive sport, the role contributes to the broader student experience through&nbsp;inclusive sports, wellness, and recreational programmes, cultivating a campus culture that&nbsp;values health, fitness and recreation. The Coaching Specialist also serves as a mentor to student-athletes and leaders, supporting their development on and off the field while ensuring alignment with the university’s strategic priorities, graduate capabilities, and student engagement goals. KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Team Taylor’s and Student Coaching Performance Coaching &amp; Athlete Development • Coaching Framework Development – Design, implement, and continuously refine a&nbsp;comprehensive coaching framework for Team Taylor’s, incorporating physical&nbsp;training, skill mastery, mental conditioning, nutrition, and leadership growth. • Performance Management – Apply data-driven monitoring and regular performance&nbsp;evaluations to ensure optimal athlete readiness for local, national, and international&nbsp;competitions. • Coaching Team Oversight – Recruit and manage a network of reputable sport-specific&nbsp;coaches to ensure coaching standards align with Taylor’s values, ethical practices, and&nbsp;competitive aspirations, while also cultivating potential internal candidates into capable coaches to build a strong and sustainable network of internal coaching expertise. • Sports Science Integration – Leverage sports psychology and injury prevention&nbsp;practices to optimise athlete well-being and competitive performance. Competitive Strategy &amp; Institutional Representation • Competition Readiness – Lead the strategic planning and preparation for tournaments,&nbsp;including skill development, match strategies, and logistical arrangements. • Stakeholder Engagement – Actively represent Taylor’s in forums, partnerships, and&nbsp;events with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, sports federations, and relevant industry&nbsp;bodies. • Brand Elevation – Spearhead initiatives that enhance Taylor’s visibility and credibility in the sports sector, positioning the institution as a consistent contender in key competitions. 2. Campus-Wide Sports &amp; Wellness Events Plan, execute, and evaluate campus-wide sports, fitness and recreational programmes, such&nbsp;as Inter-Faculty Games, Sports &amp; Fitness Week, and Wellness Challenges, promoting&nbsp;inclusive participation and student engagement. Collect and report on event participation data, impact stories, and feedback. Use insights&nbsp;to inform future programming and align with institutional goals for student experience and&nbsp;wellness. 3. University Sports Teams Coordination Serve as the Team Manager / Coach for designated university sports teams, overseeing&nbsp;athlete registration, tournament submissions, and compliance with league or regulatory&nbsp;requirements. Coordinate all aspects of team logistics for inter-university or external competitions,&nbsp;including match schedules, coaching assignments, travel and accommodation, medical&nbsp;coverage, and gear distribution. Support and monitor ongoing training and development programmes for athletes. Ensure&nbsp;regular, well-structured coaching sessions are conducted in collaboration with appointed&nbsp;sports coaches and trainers. Work closely with student clubs, societies, and the general student body to identify and&nbsp;scout new athletic talent, either through organised try-outs, open applications, or intramural&nbsp;competitions. 4. Advisor to Student Organisations Official Advisory Role Serve as the designated advisor to assigned student organisations, ensuring alignment with&nbsp;university policies and promoting leadership and holistic student development. Activity Oversight &amp; Quality Assurance Provide guidance in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of student-led events&nbsp;and initiatives, ensuring quality, safety, risk assessment and compliance with institutional&nbsp;standards. Organisational Development Support student organisations in strengthening their internal structures, governance, and&nbsp;operational effectiveness, promoting long-term sustainability. Mentorship &amp; Leadership Growth Offer consistent mentorship to student leaders, supporting them in conflict resolution,&nbsp;team dynamics, decision-making, and personal leadership development. Documentation &amp; Accountability Oversee proper documentation of student organisation activities, including meeting&nbsp;minutes, financial records, and event reports, to ensure transparency and institutional&nbsp;accountability. Event Management Support Advise and support student organisations in the end-to-end planning and execution of&nbsp;events, including risk management, logistics coordination, and contingency planning. Assist student leaders in setting up event logistics and requirements by liaising with&nbsp;relevant departments such as the Facilities Management Department, Event Management&nbsp;Department, Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Department, and other necessary units&nbsp;to ensure smooth and compliant event delivery. Collaborative Engagement Foster cross-departmental collaboration between student organisations and various&nbsp;university offices to enhance resource-sharing and program impact. Liaison to University Administration Act as a bridge between student organisations and university administration, facilitating&nbsp;communication and ensuring adherence to university procedures. Governance &amp; Policy Guidance Guide student organisations in understanding and adhering to institutional policies,&nbsp;constitutionally-aligned governance, and ethical leadership practices. Leadership Recognition &amp; SHINE Award Support Promote participation in the SHINE Award or equivalent student recognition frameworks,&nbsp;encouraging students to document their contributions and reflect on their growth. 5. SHINE Award Engagement and Support SHINE Award Promotion Actively promote student involvement in the SHINE Award by guiding student leaders on&nbsp;how to document their leadership roles, accomplishments, and learning experiences in the&nbsp;SHINE Portal. Support their efforts to gain institutional recognition and foster personal growth through reflective practice. SHINE Reflection Review Review and validate assigned student reflections in accordance with the established Service&nbsp;Level Agreement (SLA), ensuring timely and accurate processing within the SHINE&nbsp;system. SHINE Activity Coordination and Enquiry Handling Ensure student organisations contribute experiential activities to the SHINE Portal and are&nbsp;equipped with the knowledge to manage related processes. Respond to queries from student&nbsp;leaders regarding SHINE Award eligibility, submission, and portal functionality with clarity and efficiency. 6. Additional Responsibilities Commitment to Service Excellence Uphold high standards of quality assurance, professional ethics, and customer service in&nbsp;all interactions and responsibilities within the role. Project and Committee Participation Contribute to departmental or university-wide initiatives by actively participating in&nbsp;assigned projects, working groups, or committees as required. General Administrative Support Carry out other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Director, Student Development&nbsp;based on evolving departmental or institutional needs. MINIMUM ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Sports Science, Sports Psychology. A&nbsp;professional certification in sports coaching is a must. A Master’s Degree in Sports Science will be an added advantage. Related Experience Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in sports coaching and managing sports teams. Must demonstrate a strong track record in designing and delivering sports coaching programme, managing top performing athletes, and collaborating with other sports coaches. Prior experience in supervising teams or mentoring staff is required. KEY COMPETENCIES Competencies (Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities) • Proven ability to conceptualize, lead, and evaluate student sports coaching&nbsp;development frameworks. • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and execution of large-scale coaching&nbsp;initiatives that contribute to the institutions’ strategic priorities. • Strong understanding of sports coaching development theories and leadership&nbsp;models. • Proven ability to develop and train other coaches i.e. train the trainer etc • Advanced project and stakeholder management skills, including budgeting,&nbsp;reporting, risk mitigation, and interdepartmental collaboration. • Skilled in motivation, team building, facilitation, and stakeholder advocacy, with&nbsp;the ability to represent the department in high-level meetings or institutional&nbsp;committees. • Proficient in data-driven decision-making, impact assessment, and use of student&nbsp;analytics platforms for reporting and programme enhancement. • Competent in digital tools (MS Office, project tracking software, engagement&nbsp;platforms, AI productivity tools) to streamline programme delivery and evaluation. • Experienced in mentoring and coaching junior staff and student leaders, fostering&nbsp;talent development within the team. • Ability to lead cross-functional teams or portfolios across orientation, leadership,&nbsp;mentoring, or international student engagement initiatives.
